Actor Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard continue to make headlines as the trial continues.
The couple is facing each other at the Fairfax County Circuit Court. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over a December 2018 op-ed Heard wrote for the Washington Post where she claims that she is a domestic violence survivor. Although she did not mention Depp by name, he claims that he has lost movie roles due to the “clear implication” that he was the “Aquaman” actress’ abuser. Heard is countersuing for $100 million dollars.
Heard began her testimony on Wednesday morning by describing how they met on the set of "The Rum Diary." She then continued on to explain the first time that Depp allegedly struck her.
Amber Heard Takes The Stand Again On Thursday Morning
On Thursday morning, Heard again took the stand to recall allegations of abuse that she claims Depp did to her during their relationship. She recalled a lot of fighting and cursing and screaming matches between them, alleging that Depp was either drunk or on drugs when most of these fights occurred.
She explained that, in August 2013, they began to talk about moving in together due to the "vultures," which she said was Depp's word for the media. Given the public nature of their relationship, Heard said that she agreed to move in with him, hoping for more "stability" in their relationship. She said that she also hoped that moving in with him would decrease the allegations of infidelity. However, she claimed that Depp continued to try to limit her career and did not want her to take acting roles, especially roles that involved sex scenes, kissing, or minimal clothing.
She said that, after Depp proposed to her, she had "so much hope in that moment." She said, "I, of course, cried, and we had a wonderful evening." She said she was afraid to tell anyone, however, because she was afraid that he "didn't mean it." She said it wasn't until her father told her Depp had asked for her hand that she realized it was real.
Amber Heard Says Depp Accused Her Of Cheating At Met Gala Event
At the Met Gala event, Depp accused Heard, who is bisexual, of flirting with another woman at the event. After they got back to the hotel that night, Heard explained that he grabbed her between her collarbone and neck. She said she pushed him back.
She said that he then threw a bottle at her. She claims it did not hit her but it "broke the chandelier." She said a "struggle" ensued in the living room and "at some point, he just whacks me in the face," she alleged. She "suspected" that she had a broken nose. She said her nose was swollen, discolored, and red. She claims that she took a picture of her face and sent it to a friend.
Heard then discussed filming 2015's "The Adderall Diaries" with James Franco, who Depp had accused her of cheating on him with. During their Boston plane ride, Heard alleges that Depp was asking her if she "enjoyed" graphic descriptions of sexual encounters with Franco that Heard vehemently denied. She said that Depp asked her these "embarrassing" questions in front of other people.
Amber Heard Claims Johnny Depp Kicked Her In Front Of People
Heard says that, when she tried to remove herself from the situation, he started throwing utensils and ice cubes at her, calling her a "go-getter" and an "embarrassment." At another point, he said that Depp slapped her face. "It didn't hurt me, it didn't hurt my face, I just felt embarrassed because he'd do that to you in front of people," Heard told the jury, her voice full of emotion.
At another point, she alleged that Depp kicked her in the back and she was "staring at the floor of the plane for what felt like a long time." She added, "No one said anything. No one did anything."
"I just remember feeling so embarrassed. I felt so embarrassed that he could kick me to the ground in front of people," she said.
The jury then heard an audio recording, where Depp can be heard yelling incoherently.
Later on, Heard said that she began attending Al-Anon meetings in New York City. While she talked about his detox, she talked about she "felt bad" because she "did not want him to feel embarrassed."
"I shouldn't have been there," she said, admitting to the jury that she did not know how to help someone through a detox. "I had no idea what that was going to look like, or be like."
