Sure, there have been a few "Dirty Dancing" adaptations over the years, including "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" wherein the late Patrick Swayze reprised his iconic Johnny Castle role, but the story of the original film has never been revisited until now!

The "Dirty Dancing" sequel will indeed have Grey on board.

According to People, the actress revealed the news of a "Dirty Dancing" sequel being in the works while at CinemaCon yesterday.

Grey said her character will "Return to Kellerman's in the next chapter."

"Dirty Dancing" devotees know perhaps more than any group that there will be a noticeable absence in the film, (Swayze passed away back in 2009), but Grey was adamant that a sequel will make no attempt to diminish Swayze's legacy.

"All I can say is there's no replacing anyone that's passed," she told People two years ago, "You never try to repeat anything that's magic like that. You just go for something different."

What Will Be Different?

For now, the specifics surrounding the "Dirty Dancing" sequel are 'like the wind.'

We do know Grey is serving as the film's executive producer, so we do know there will be extra care taken to preserve the original film.

"Dirty Dancing was a fairy tale, a successful movie and formula, using dancing as a metaphor for embodying your energy and getting out of your head and your limiting belief systems," Grey noted about the film's ability to resonate with audiences.

She hopes those audiences will continue to expand to new generations of "Dirty Dancing" fans, and those who love to see dancing play a prominent role in films.

"And I know in my heart, I would love to give fans or a young, new audience an experience that would never replicate that, but has the same kind of underpinnings," Grey said, referring to her intentions for a sequel.

"Today people think that their identity is limited, the world has told them what it is," she began, "But there are certain people who can see other parts of you."

Baby and Johnny's relationship definitely resonated over multiple generations of audiences, and Grey believes the characters' ability to connect with each other so deeply and bring out the best in one another, was a key component of the film's appeal.

"[The film] was about innocence and the way that innocence is lost and how people explode into different iterations of themselves," Grey reflected to People.
