Kim Basinger Speaks Out On Marriage To Alec Baldwin
The “Batman” actress, 68, was married to Baldwin, 64, from 1993 to 2002. They had one daughter from the marriage, Ireland. Basinger said that Baldwin was not “emotionally and mentally available” for facing tough issues, especially in regards to their daughter.
“You know we’re all fine, we all get along, whatever. But he’s a challenge. We’ve had our challenges,” Basinger revealed. “I don’t think Alec was emotionally or mentally available for that kind of talk. Alec, you know, operates in a very different way in his life.”
Ireland says that she thinks her father suffers from anxiety and described him as “someone who grew up in a family that would suppress that as well or tell him he’s weak for feeling that way.”
“There’s things I would go to my father for, but if I ever even try to have this conversation in any way with him, I don’t think he would be able to really absorb any of it,” she added.
Kim Basinger’s Daughter Opens Up About Substance Abuse
Ireland explained that she did not speak to either one of her parents while she was struggling with substance abuse.
In a one-on-one segment with Willow Smith, the model revealed, “I have a lot of alcoholism and drug addiction in my family. I had a night where I went way too far with drinking and taking pills because I couldn’t even go to bed at night.”
“I had isolated all of my real friends, isolated my family. I had no control in anything in my life,” she continued. “I tortured myself with my eating disorders that I had. I didn’t talk to my parents for like a year. I saw them here and there, but I was so ashamed of what I had become and how I was living.”
She has since repaired her relationship with her parents and has been “free of anorexia and bulimia” for years.
Baldwin, meanwhile, has been making headlines for his involvement in the fatal “Rust” shooting that led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. He is also expecting his eighth child. It will be the seventh child that he shares with his wife Hilaria Baldwin, who he married in 2012.
Ireland Baldwin Comments On Past Struggles & The New Baldwin Baby
In the lengthy Instagram message, Baldwin wrote, “I get countless messages from people who are kind of alarmingly obsessed with my father and his family. I think a lot of people assume my take on any of this, well here it is for free — it’s none of my business.”
“To all the media outlets who have reached out for a quote – there’s your quote,” she continued. “I don’t care. My life is here in Oregon with my boyfriend, 6 dogs, and my new business. I smoke weed, I eat good food, and I mind MY own business.”
However, she did have kind words for her parents, saying that they “Have been very helpful in my life.” She added, “My mom has never gone a day without telling me how much she believes in me.”
“I have been called some version of fat, ugly, worthless, and irrelevant by grown adults on the Internet since I was a kid,” she continued. “It’s hard putting myself on here sometimes because those same grown adults raised other little s—– adults to go about trolling the same way.” She criticized “women doing this to other women” and the “sad and pathetic” people who had nothing to do but criticize people online all day.
“I have spent way too many years starving myself, binging, purging, measuring, stepping on scales, spitting food into my purse and all around ruining my body because some troll told me I’ll never be as thin and beautiful as my mother,” she added.
“All that matters is I approve of me, and it feels d--- good,” she wrote. “I am so grateful and lucky to be where I am. Thank you to those who always send me support and kind words. To those that still have a negative opinion of me, stick around. You might see something you’ll like.”
