Actor Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard continue to make headlines as the trial continues.
The couple is facing each other at the Fairfax County Circuit Court. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over a December 2018 op-ed Heard wrote for the Washington Post where she claims that she is a domestic violence survivor. Although she did not mention Depp by name, he claims that he has lost movie roles due to the “clear implication” that he was the “Aquaman” actress’ abuser. Heard is countersuing for $100 million dollars.
On Wednesday morning, Depp was seen sketching in the courtroom while waiting for the jury to arrive that morning. Depp has been known for his courtroom doodles, which have even made their way to TikTok.
LAPD Officer Says Amber Heard Refused Medical Treatment At L.A. Penthouse
On Wednesday, the jury heard from Los Angeles Police Department officer Tyler Hadden, who had said in a pre-taped disposition from March 11, 2021 that Heard refused medical treatment when he arrived at the couple’s L.A. Penthouse on May 21, 2016. Hadden claimed that Heard had no injuries, but admitted that he did not get close enough to her face to inspect it properly.
He did not take any notes, did not take any pictures of the scene, and did not file a formal police report. Hadden claimed that Josh Drew was at the penthouse when he arrived. Drew, the ex-husband of Raquel “Rocky” Pennington, is said to be Heard’s best friend. Drew had previously alleged that Heard had a threesome with Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk and supermodel Cara Delevingne, as per the New York Post.
After Officer Hadden had left, LAPD Office Gatlin arrived on the scene. He said that a man answered the door and “kind of made it clear that this was sort of left over from that same incident.” Gatlin admitted that he “was aware there was an actress by the name of Amber Heard” but said that he was “not totally familiar with her work.” He said that he knew of several of Depp’s movies, but “wasn’t rushing” to theaters to see them when they came out.
Johnny Depp’s Former Doorman Says Depp Was Never Violent
Alejandro Romero, the doorman of the downtown L.A. Eastern Columbia Building where the couple once lived, always gave a pre-recorded disposition that seemed to have been filmed inside a parked car. The video was recorded on January 22, 2021.
Romero said that Depp never seemed abusive or violent, but admitted that he had only met the actor “a couple times.” He said that he had more interaction with Heard’s sister, Whitney Henriquez, and Whitney’s friend, Raquel Pennington.
In the video, Romero confesses, “I know you guys sent me the papers to review, and I’ll be honest, I didn’t want to review them because it’s been so long.” He added, “It’s like, I don’t want to deal with this anymore.” Depp was seen smiling in response to his statement.
Romero claimed that he wasn’t working on May 21, 2016, the night that officers arrived at the penthouse. In a previous testimony for Depp’s U.K. trial against The Sun, Romero claims he saw Elon Musk “a few times a week” late at night in 2015. He said that the SpaceX founder would “always visit when Mr. Depp was not at home” around 11 PM to midnight.
Johnny Depp’s Doorman Saw No Marks Or Bruises On Amber Heard
Although he did not work on the night of the May 2016 incident, Romero did not recall “seeing any marks or bruises” on Heard in the days after the LAPD showed up at their apartment.
“I just don’t remember any,” he said in the video. “I would’ve seen that and I would remember because that’s something that you would see … but when I was there, talking to her, she was, like, three feet away from me. She was right in front of me and I just don’t remember seeing any marks, bruises, or anything.”
He admitted he was not sure if Heard was wearing makeup to disguise any possible bruises. Romero also added that Depp is “most of the time, really calm” and described him as a “really happy person” overall.
Johnny Depp’s Former Agent Christian Carino Testifies About Elon Musk
Depp’s former agent, Christian Carino, was once engaged to Lady Gaga. They started dating in February 2017, were engaged in October 2018, and called it off in February 2019. Carino, an agent at CAA, believes that Depp lost his role in “Pirates 6” due to Heard’s op-ed.
“My opinion is it was related to the accusations that Amber has made,” Carino testified in a pre-taped deposition. He admitted that he hadn’t spoken to anyone except EP Jerry Bruckheimer and said that his opinion was based on “conversations with colleagues and studios executives … internal and external.”
“It is something within the industry that is understood,” Carino added, although he admitted that there were problems at the Australia set of “Dead Men Tell No Tales.” Carino confessed that Depp was often “tardy” to set, but said “he’s been tardy on everything his entire life. Everyone has learned how to produce a film, how to deal with it.”
Carino also testified that Heard only dated Elon Musk because she was “filling space.” Heard texted Carino in 2017 to say that she was upset over her split with Musk. Heard reportedly texted him, “I hate when things go public.”
Carino was said to have responded, “You weren’t in love with him and you told me a thousand times you were just filling space.”
Carino has finished testifying and the jury will hear from Laura Wasser next. The celebrity divorce lawyer inspired Laura Dern’s character in the 2019 movie “Marriage Story.” She will also give her testimony through a pre-recorded disposition. Wasser represented Depp during his divorce from Amber Heard in 2016.
Wasser had previously represented Angelina Jolie in her divorce from Brad Pitt, Jennifer Garner in her divorce from Ben Affleck, and Britney Spears in her divorce from Kevin Federline.
