Although Earth Day only comes once a year, climate change is a serious problem that must be dealt with year-round.
The annual event raises awareness about environmental issues and helps many individuals become more aware of the climate crisis. Here are just a few of the tweets that help to spread information about the importance of caring for the environment.

The UNEP tweeted the Lung Association's State of the Air report, which found that more than 4 in 10 Americans live in counties that had unhealthy levels of pollution. Many people don't think about the air that they breathe in each day or how much of an effect it can have on one's health.

Professor Katharine Hayhoe used the day to promote awareness of climate change. She tweeted, "Climate Change: It's real. It's us. It's serious - and becoming dangerous. But there is hope: there are solutions. The faster we cut out emissions and take carbon out of the atmosphere, the less suffering there will be."
Al Gore Warns Of The Dangers Of Pollution In Earth Day Tweet

Professor Katharine Hayhoe was not alone in warning of the dangers of pollution. Al Gore's tweet was also getting a lot of attention online. Over 1100 people have been arrested protecting some of the last remaining iconic old growth forests in BC. It is the largest act of environmental civil disobedience in Canada's history.
