Drama is basically the tenth realtor on Netflix's "Selling Sunset!"
Just when viewers thought there couldn't possibly be any additional drama happening within the Oppenheim Group offices, viewers were in for a gasp-worthy development between seasons four and five.
Chrishell Stause and Jason Oppenheim, yes, THAT Jason Oppenheim, began dating and were together from July to December 2021.
Their whirlwind romance came as a surprise to both fans and their co-workers, alike. After all, Stause's divorce from "This Is Us'" Justin Hartley seemed to still be making headlines!
No one was more taken aback by the blossoming romance than Stause, herself!
Of the surprising development, she reflected to Today, "It was obviously a pleasant surprise."
Selling 'Splitsville'
Unfortunately, Oppenheim and Stause's relationship only lasted from Summer to Winter.
The couple split before any of their romance could be captured for cameras on "Selling Sunset."
When Season four dropped in November of last year, "Selling Sunset" fans were likely aware Stause and Oppenheim were together off-camera, but audiences would have to wait to witness the piping hot tea over their relationship.
Season five, which was dropped today on Netflix, would scratch the fan itch for hot gossip due to its heavy focus on the duo's relationship.
What Went Wrong?
Matters behind the couple's sudden split were much deeper than any desire for hot gossip.
The reason for Oppenheim and Stause's split was quite personal: The couple could not agree on whether to start a family with one another.
Before their split was announced, Stause spoke of the couple's then-current stance of having children.
According to Us Weekly per Today, She shared, "I don't know what we're gonna do, but you know, it's just one of those things that I'm very open with where I'm at in life, and I think that's the key."
Being "very open" with assessing his thoughts about eventually raising a family was a stance Oppenheim also deeply held.
When asked about the possibility of having children, Oppenheim was frank. "Let's put it this way," he began, "ever since I was an adult, 18 until now, [having kids was not] something I have seriously considered. And part of that is finding someone you would trust as a mother too. But I would say I am considering it more seriously than I ever have before."
The former couple considered the possibility so strongly, to the point of kicking around hypothetical baby names for their future kiddos!
Viewers will get to witness the moment where Stause reveals to Oppenheim's mother, "I know I want to be a mom. We even came up with a name for our fictitious child. His name is Maverick," in season five, via Us Weekly.
Oppenheim Opens His Heart
Season five's extensive coverage of his relationship with Stause may be arriving too soon for a certain Oppenheim twin's liking.
"It's almost like if you get a divorce and had to watch your wedding video," Oppenheim told People on the fifth season's release day.
"This has not been an easy break-up for me at all- my most difficult for sure- and I'm still processing. So to have to go through this when I'm already having a difficult time is not something I am looking forward to," he concluded.
While watching the demise of his relationship with Stause on screen is going to be incredibly difficult for Oppenheim no doubt, matters between him and his ex at least remain cordial.
"I love her still. I always will," Oppenheim said, per Today, "She's a great woman, so there is just a lot of loss there. It's been a difficult process, far more difficult than I thought, and it's going to take a lot longer than I thought."
All episodes of "Selling Sunset's" fifth season are now available on Netflix.
