The Canadian singer, who has amassed a legion of faithful admirers with his soulful voice, recently proved he is just as passionate as his music.

In a series of tweets, the 23-year-old opened up about his insecurities and the heavy burden that came with fame.

Taking to Twitter, the "Mercy" singer penned an open letter to fans, which he shared as a screenshot on the social media platform.

In the emotional write-up, the musician discussed the highs and lows of his life, especially the fear of what others would think about his vulnerabilities. The Pop star’s message began with the opening statement that read:

"Sometimes I ask myself what it is that I should be doing with my life and what I always hear in return is 'to tell the truth, to be the truth.'"

The nine-time Teen Choice Award winner felt it was difficult to "tell and be the truth" as he feared what others would think if they saw his truest self. In Mendes' words:

"I'm afraid that if people know and see the truth they might think less of me. They might become bored of me. so in those moments of feeling low, I either put on a show or hide."

As for the truth about the "In My Blood" singer, the 23-year-old stated that he constantly felt overwhelmed by life. The guitarist wrote:

"The truth, in current form, is a 23-year-old who constantly feels like he's either flying or drowning. Maybe that's just what it is to be in your 20's idk, or maybe that's just me."

The Grammy nominee confessed that he genuinely wished to show the world his "100% true, honest, and unique self" without worrying about what anyone thought of him.

Despite achieving this goal on some occasions, the "Shawn Mendes: In Wonder" star admitted that he frequently struggled to ignore the opinions of others and live freely.

"That's the truth," the Canadian heartthrob continued, "The truth is even with so much success I still find it hard to feel like I'm not failing."

Mendes stated that he usually forgot to give himself a pat on the back for his numerous achievements while being "hyper-focused" on the things he had not done. The artist wrote:

"The truth is I'm overwhelmed and overstimulated lol. The truth is ALSO that I'm okay. I’m just tryna tell and be the truth."

The "Stitches" singer ended his heartfelt post by pointing out that he decided to share his feelings to hopefully "resonate with some people."

Following this lengthy message, the MTV Europe Music Award winner shared two more tweets where he reassured his over 2 million fans of his stability.

The second tweet read, "I'm honestly so okay! I just wanna communicate with you guys in a real honest way. So I just typed [a] big old note out for you lol."

While the third tweet further clarified that the "If I Can't Have You" musician's note was to connect with anyone having similar issues. The 23-year-old wrote:

"And I guess I'm like damn if I'm feeling this with all of the blessings I have I imagine there must be so many people feeling this and just don’t want them to feel alone !!"

Naturally, the Pop star's admirers were touched by his sentimental posts as they flooded each tweet with numerous supportive comments.

The 23-year-old confessed that he disliked being on his own, noting that he no longer had someone to call when he had a panic attack or felt on the edge.

This marked the first time the singer had openly addressed his breakup since releasing the track, "It'll Be Okay," which seemingly talked about the former couple's relationship.
