He also noted that a disorder like Aphasia- which affects a person's ability to express themselves and understand language- would be particularly devastating for a talented actor like Willis. He said, "It's particularly poignant, isn't it? I wish him all the best."

Willis' family revealed last month that the 67-year-old icon is retiring from acting after receiving a diagnosis of Aphasia. They said he is "stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him" and that "a recent diagnosis with aphasia is "impacting his cognitive abilities."

During the interview with NYP, Neeson revealed that his character's memory problems in "Memory" made him confront the harsh realities of aging and the reality that many older people have to deal with similar health problems. He even admitted to having a fear of Alzheimer's.

He said, "It has crossed my mind a few times, especially when you can't remember a name of an actor I worked with two or three years ago. That bugs me. But maybe we all suffer that. "In doing some research for this, I watched some very traumatic documentaries on the affliction of Alzheimer's and dementia and read some books on it, of course."

"And I have a friend in Ireland, who is older than me, [who] has very definite early stages of dementia, which is traumatic to see … It is a horrible affliction. It really is," he continued, "I know several actors in London … who have lost the ability to learn lines… And these are actors who have given extraordinary performances on stage and on film and television."
