Host Vanessa Lachey has some exciting news for fans of “Love Is Blind.”

The Netflix reality show just finished up its second season, with fans anxiously awaiting the third. Although the second season was shot in Chicago, the third season was filmed in Houston and the fourth in Seattle.

In a recent conversation with E! News, Vanessa dropped the surprising news that a show’s fifth season will start filming in a few weeks. She also teased a separate series featuring same-sex pairings in the works.

Vanessa teased that they just finished the intro to season four on April 10, only a few days ago. She and her husband Nick Lacheywill continue to host the series through the fifth season. It’s unclear if any more seasons will come out, given the couple’s ever-increasing list of spin-offs in the works.

One such spin-off is “The Ultimatum,” which featured six couples where one partner was ready to get married and the others weren’t. One partner issues an ultimatum and is given the choice of dating someone else for eight weeks. They then must decide whether they still want to marry their original partner, settle down with their new beau, or move on completely.

Vanessa said, “Every couple that was there, clearly something wasn't working in their relationships where they felt they needed this.”

According to E! News, “a separate series featuring all queer couples is coming down the pipeline too.”

However, that is literally all that is known about the series so far. Many have called for “Love is Blind” producers to create a more inclusive casting on their current show, which would be difficult to implement in its current form due to the premise of the show.

Although the cast is supposed to be “blind” when they fall in love, the couples’ living quarters are separated by male and female, so technically, you would know what the person you were dating looked like. To separate all singles individually from one another would seem isolating, even if it was just for ten days.

However, it appears that the producers are already taking queer casting into consideration. In 2020, TMZ reported the possibility of queer cast members for season 2 after they discovered that producers had asked contestants to disclose their sexual orientation.

The topic of sexual orientation has actually come up on the show before. In the first season, Carlton and Diamond broke up soon after they arrived on their honeymoon in Mexico after Carlton didn’t disclose that he was bisexual until after they had already become engaged.

Although there were reportedly no questions about politics on the form, they did ask questions about religion and ethnicity, as well as the standard, age, hair color, eye color, occupation, and hobbies. They also asked contestants to provide their dating history and a list of things they desire in a partner.

Although it’s disappointing that there is no more news about the queer spin-off show, fans can at least find some solace in the fact that it is in the works. Until then, there’s always the season 2 “Love Is Blind: After the Altar” special to look forward to later this year.
