Katie Maloney's decision to walk away from over two years of marriage to her longtime sweetheart Tom Schwartz was not easy for her to make.
Maloney, who was in a public rollercoaster relationship with Schwartz for twelve years, walked down the aisle with him in 2019.
The "Vanderpump Rules" personality recently shed more light on all the signs which propelled her to dissolve her union with him.
Katie Maloney Details Factors Behind Her Divorce From Tom Schwartz
On Sunday, April 10, Lindsey Metselaar uploaded an episode of her "We Met At Acme" podcast where Maloney appeared to talk about the end of her marriage to Schwartz candidly.
The TV personality looked back on all the issues that piled up until she had to walk away from the union, one of which was not feeling heard when she complained about her unmet desires. She said:
"I had been expressing my feelings -- where I felt that I was not getting my needs met and where I thought I was being hurt by some of the behavior. I don't think he understood or resonated or agreed."
Maloney explained that she later stopped beating around the bush and told her husband that she was unhappy. She described his response, saying:
"He just didn't really do anything... I think he thought that I was just gonna get over it or something."
Weeks later, the 35-year-old had still not reached an understanding with Schwartz and decided that she wanted to go down the divorce route.

Despite her decision, Maloney thought they would have made things work. Yet battling their marital issues and putting all her focus and energy towards salvaging their union negatively affected her mental health. She explained:
"I've been bogged down and putting all of my energy into this relationship, and when I'm not getting my needs met, it's making me feel really sad and bad about myself."
The conclusion that her relationship was the source of her unhappiness was hard for Maloney to come to terms with and a painful reality for her.
The "Basically Stassi" actor's wife explained that separation was not just the healthiest decision for her but for him as well. She admitted that she was not only losing sleep but "dying inside" in her marriage.
Maloney also took the blame for exhibiting some "toxic" traits in their relationship and dealing with alcohol issues which she did not want to sink into their union.
The guest expressed that though she put in the needed work and time to be a better person to make their relationship work, her spouse did not do the same.

Maloney filed for a divorce at a Los Angeles County Court earlier this year, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for her filing.
In March, The Blast revealed these details in an obtained court document. The couple was previously spotted together that month, giving fans hope that all was well with their romantic life.
In March, sources close to the couple said that Schwartz was photographed wearing his wedding ring in Long Beach, California.
The couple's split seems to be amicable as they were also seen dining together on a Saturday night at Mister O’s in Studio City.
Maloney opened up about her situation with the actor on a candid episode of her "You’re Gonna Love Me" podcast. She said:
"I know [for] some people [it] may seem like a shock, or it may seem like an abrupt thing, but for us, it’s not like we just decided this week or yesterday or the day before."
The host emotionally explained that there was no "crazy" incident or fight which led her to the Los Angeles County court, and it was the "hardest and most painful decision" she ever had to make.
Schwartz also broke his silence on the split on his personal Instagram page with a message noting that he won't play the victim in their breakup. His note read:
"Well, this sucks. How am I supposed to capture 12 years of love in an f–kin canned Instagram caption. I’m not quite ready to use the ‘D-word bc it’s too painful. Yes, my heart aches, but I’ll be ok."
