Cabello shared during a recent interview (per People) that she now has a new perspective on life after coming out of a difficult stretch that inspired her to record new music and create her album.

The 25-year-old singer said that when she started recording for "Familia" (the new album's title), she was not in a good place mentally. She said, "I was cripplingly anxious and was in the worst mental health state ever, and then I took a break at the beginning of the pandemic. I started doing therapy [and] trying to feel better."

She also spoke about these issues during an appearance on "Apple Fitness+ Time to Walk," where she said, "I was just left with my anxiety and my mind. And it was getting in the way of my relationship. It was getting in the way of my friendships, my time at home."

She Wanted To Stay True To Herself

Cabello eventually realized that the only way to get better was to shift her priorities to focus more on her well-being. For her, this meant that she had to stay true to herself no matter what.

She said, "For me it was, if this process doesn't help me in feeling better, and if it's not me being honest and vulnerable and unfiltered, I don't really see how this is going to happen. That was my intention, was just to be myself, whatever that looked like at the time."

She also said that the vulnerability she felt is infused into her upcoming album, which is "entirely autobiographical." Though she didn't reveal what life events the songs cover exactly, fans expect that some of them will be about her relationship and public breakup with Shawn Mendes.

Cabello Said She Feels Amazing Now

Cabello has revealed a few things about the inspiration behind the songs in her new album, including that she just "word-vomited into a mic in the form of a melody." She also said, "It really doesn't get more personal than that. I was all stream of consciousness."

She also revealed that her work and efforts to fix her mental health issues have paid off a lot, as she feels "amazing" and much better now. She said, "There's a sense of trust in myself that I feel like I didn't have before because I was so anxious all the time. I really feel like I'm living my truth, and I'm speaking my truth."
