Matthew Broderick's plans of starring in the Broadway performance of "Plaza Suite" were unfortunately soiled due to health complications.

The spouse of Sarah Jessica Parker tested positive for COVID-19, which meant he would have to abstain from the play.

The husband and wife were to star beside each other in the revival of the Neil Simon production at Hudson theater, but the show went on regardless.

Amid immense preparation for the Tuesday, April 5 performance of Neil Simon's Broadway's Plaza Suite, Broderick, unfortunately, caught a variant of the coronavirus, according to PEOPLE.

The production team made the announcement before the Tuesday night show. They explained that the "Inspector Gadget" actor tested positive twice despite adhering strictly to COVID protocols of safety.

The executives wished Broderick a quick recovery and noted that Parker, on the other hand, tested negative and was cleared to star on the show.

A spokesperson for the production told the outlet that they amped up testing protocols to protect all the people who would be present at the Hudson Theatre.

They returned in February 2022 for Broadway's Plaza Suite, which was initially meant to make its debut two years ago. Unfortunately, it had to be pushed forward due to the pandemic.

Broadway's Plaza Suite is directed by John Benjamin Hickey and shows Broderick and Parker taking on the roles of three couples at the notable Plaza Hotel.

Fans of the Tuesday show missed out on Broderick's excellent on-stage chemistry with his wife. Erin Dilly, who also stars in the production, gushed about working with the couple, saying:

"They're so good together. And they have so much fun. Like that's what's really fun is to watch them rehearse together. And then, like, just, they have unbelievable chemistry."

Dilly shared that the husband and wife crack each other both onstage and offstage. She added that each of their shows always brought something different for viewers. She continued:

"I mean like that's why it's such a hot ticket. I think they're both so good together. It's like it's combustible."

Broadway's Plaza Suite also features Molly Ranson, Eric Wiegand, and Danny Bolero. The production will play at the Hudson Theatre until June 26.

Getting to star alongside Broderick seems to have made Parker fall deeper in love with him as she gushed about the experience in an interview.

The Blast disclosed that the "Sex And The City" actress told E! News that getting to work on Broadway's Plaza Suite with her husband is "extraordinary."

Broderick also spoke highly of his wife's talents when they appeared on SiriusXM's "Quarantined with Bruce" in 2020. He gushed about getting to do the Broadway show with her saying:

"She was so, so good at it. And I was just reminded of how funny and smart and what a great comic actor she is — or actor, never mind the comic part. She’s very good at it. So I hope everybody gets to see her do it.”

Before the March 28 opening night of the show, the couple walked the red carpet with their son, James Wilkie, age 19, and their beautiful twin girls, Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell, ages 12.

The lovebirds have been married since 1997 but still looked happily in love as they walked the carpet, with Parker opting for an eye-catching pink gown by Prabal Gurung.

The protective parents keep their children out of the spotlight for the most part but allow them a glimpse into their world from time to time.

The proud siblings stunned on the red carpet. Tabitha and Loretta sported a black leather dress and a pink tulle outfit, respectively. On the other hand, James looked dapper in a black suit and tie.
