Season 2 of “Bridgerton” was supposed to focus on the relationship between the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Viscount Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), and his relationship with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). However, much of the show’s second season is focused on his relationship and his upcoming wedding to Edwina. The two only kiss in the final moments of episode six, and with only eight episodes in the season, it does not give the show much time to explore the relationship between Kate and Anthony. In fact, Anthony and Kate only agree to wed within the last twenty minutes of the show. Their wedding and many are details of their elopement were stricken from the show’s finale, leaving many fans wanting more.

In one Reddit post, one user complained that the finale left them with more questions than answers, especially about the wedding. Many fans wanted to know whether or not Queen Charlotte would have been in attendance at the wedding, especially considering that she seemed to approve of their union during their dance in the season finale.

Another key element missing from the finale was the conversation between their families. Many fans wanted to see both Violet and Lady Danbury’s reaction. Other fans wanted to know if Kate perhaps wanted to speak with her privately, considering that she had previously claimed to have strong feelings for Anthony before she dashed away at the wedding.

Other fans pointed out that most of the season was spent focusing on side plots and not enough on the main couple. Kate and Anthony spent most of their time on-screen bickering, leaving many to wonder what they are actually like as a couple. Although it was supposed to be their season to shine and their love story was supposed to be front and center, it seemed relegated to the back burner in favor of Lady Whistledown drama.

‘Bridgerton’ Fans Thought That Season 2 Was ‘Cruel’ To Edwina

“I am not actually as sold on Kanthony (tv version) because he is going after her sister for wayyyyy too long,” one fan wrote. “That should have been cut shorter and the drama could have instead been around them getting together since she is older/the Sharma family wealth issue.”

“I totally agree. I feel like the whole wedding was just unnecessary drama that was just cruel to Edwina,” the original poster replied. “The writers should have ended the drama sooner and explored Kate's backstory more. Like she was clearly dealing with her own trauma after losing her father and we NEVER saw it.”

“Agree,” said another. “Towards the end of the season, I was questioning whether Edwina was the lead instead of Kate.”

“And who wanted to see that Fetherington drama,” another wrote. “We didn't ask to cut Kanthony's screen time and give it to a boring subplot nobody asked for.”

‘Bridgerton’ Fans Say The Final Product Was ‘Insulting’ To Fans

“It’s as though they didn’t write and plan out this series in enough time. BUT they had time,” another fan noted. “It’s insulting they found this to be an acceptable finished product. Like did they go over budget?? If they were set on that drawn out story line, they should’ve added 2 episodes.”

“To me, things could have been salvaged if they didn’t do Edwina so dirty,” another said. “A simple comment that she couldn’t go through with this as she didn’t love Anthony or that she knew Kate loved him. Why make her say she loved him? Why embarrass her at the altar? Why ruin the sisters relationship? It disgusted me.”

“The whole thing was terrible IMO. The book was my favorite because of the whole storyline with Anthony and Kate and this was so rushed,” another shared. “All that time spent going after her sister, why change it like that? I preferred the original book storyline of why Anthony didn't want to commit. I found myself bored at times and just wanting to forward it to get to to the resolution of it all? That whole wedding episode? So unnecessary. And then it was rushed together in like 2 seconds and as OP said, no wedding, no nothing. Too many subplots as well IMO, they took away from the central characters.”

Many fans are hoping that they will get to see more of Kate and her backstory – as well as her developing relationship with Anthony – in season 3.
