It seems that Rachel Zegler made it to the Oscars after all!
The “West Side Story” star was not nominated for any Academy Awards; however, the film was nominated for seven. Earlier this month, she shocked fans when she revealed that she had not been invited to the Oscars at all!

In one Instagram snaps she shared to Instagram shortly before the award ceremony on Sunday night, one fan commented, “Can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing on Oscar night.”
Zegler replied, “I’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.”
“No? Even with a nominated movie?” another asked.
“Why aren’t you invited….so not fair,” another commented.
Zegler replied, “idk y’all i have tried it all but it doesn’t seem to be happening :’) i will root for west side story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago. i hope some last minute miracle occurs and i can celebrate our film in person but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, i guess. thanks for all the shock and outrage— i’m disappointed, too. but that’s okay. so proud of our movie. ❤️”
Rachel Zegler Tried To Calm The Fan Outrage On Twitter
my goodness, folks!! appreciate all the support, i really really do. we live in such unprecedented times, and a lot of work behind the scenes goes into making movie magic happen. that goes for film productions (like the one I am so lucky to be currently shooting in london)…

Shortly after, Zegler took to Twitter to try to pacify her fans who had started petitioning Disney to give her a seat at the table.
“my goodness, folks!! appreciate all the support, i really really do,” she began. “we live in such unprecedented times, and a lot of work behind the scenes goes into making movie magic happen. that goes for film productions (like the one I am so lucky to be currently shooting in london)…”
“…and awards shows alike. let’s all just respect the process and i’ll get off my phone x R,” she concluded.
It was surprising to hear that Zegler wouldn't be at the Oscars, considering that she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for her role in “West Side Story”, was the first actress of Columbian descent to win the award. She was also the youngest recipient to ever win the award at 20 years old.
However, shortly after, it was revealed that all the fan backlash was worth it because she was asked to present an award at the ceremony.
Rachel Zegler Flew In From London To Present At The Oscars
Although Zegler was currently in London shooting Disney’s live-action adaption of “Snow White,” producers rearranged the movie’s packed filming schedule to allow Zegler to appear at the Oscars.
She got up on stage next to “Euphoria” star Jacob Elordi in order to present the award in the Visual Effects category.
“I can’t believe we are here tonight at the Oscars,” Elordi said. “Growing up in Australia, I never thought that I would stand here on this stage.”
“And I never thought I would be here six days ago,” Zegler quipped. “Dreams really come true. Pretty fast, too.”
On the Red Carpet, only minutes before the ceremony started, she revealed that she had jokingly asked “West Side Story” director Steven Spielberg to direct her presenting moment.
Unfortunately, “West Side Story” failed to be the Academy Award juggernaut many fans had hoped it to be. The musical lost to “CODA” in the Best Picture category and Best Director went to Jane Campion for “The Power of the Dog.”
Although she didn't win an award, fans were still excited to see her appear at the Oscars ceremony. Fans were even more excited to see what she had to wear, considering that was the question that started the fan frenzy in the first place! Zegler chose to match her dark hair with a black sleeveless gown and accessorized the look with a sleek gold choker.
