By Rima Pundir on March 26, 2022 at 9:45 AM EDT
Late Friday, March 25, 2022, legendary band Foo Fighters, with lead vocals from Dave Grohl, took to their social media to announce the tragic loss of their bandmate, drummer Taylor Hawkins.
Hawkins was 50 and is survived by his wife and three children. No cause of death has been revealed as of now and at the time, the band was touring South America, having given their last performance earlier this week at Lollapalooza Argentina.
They were going to headline the Festival Estéreo Picnic in Bogota, Colombia on Friday but just before the start, a projected statement above a candle-lit stage read, "Due to a very serious medical situation, Foo Fighters will not be able to perform tonight and have canceled the remainder of their South American tour."
Shortly after, the Instagram and Twitter accounts of Foo Fighters carried the sad news of Taylor Hawkins passing.
Foo Fighters Are Devastated By Taylor Hawkins' Death
Immensely talented, Hawkins was more than just a drummer as he also sometimes covered the vocals. Fans and the music industry alike are shaken over the loss, especially since Hawkins was 50 and the death was a shock out of the blue.
Here's a fan, shaken over the loss, and remembering the best of Hawkins.
Just f*cking devastating!! He was the best!! Here’s Taylor singing Queen’s “Somebody to Love” at the Foo’s show here in February.

Another fan was grateful for the chance to see the band live, at their last performance together with Taylor Hawkins.
Just last friday at Lollapalooza 🇨🇱. Im from 🇻🇪 and there aren’t too many shows there, so this was my first concert and I was crying with happiness since you started to play.
Im so grateful to have had the opportunity to hear you sing and play the drums.
RIP Taylor Hawkins ❤️. pic.twitter.com/g5e64VVP32

Fans Feel Dave Grohl's Loss The Most
As soon as the official social media accounts of Foo Fighters posted about Hawkins' passing, fans began to post their condolences, and most seem to center around Dave Grohl.
Before founding Foo Fighters, Grohl was the drummer for the legendary band Nirvana, which had to deal with the suicide of their lead singer, Kurt Cobain. After Cobain's death, the band disintegrated and in 1994, Grohl founded the Foo Fighters. Hawkins joined the band in 1997 and since then, the two have been fast friends as well as bandmates, as obvious from their chemistry, both in music and otherwise.
One Twitter user noted the loss and summed it almost perfectly...
I can’t imagine being a drummer and losing your front man, then becoming the front man only to lose your drummer… rest in peace Taylor Hawkins, and peace be with you Dave Grohl, just devastating pic.twitter.com/l0pAtC1D1z

Another Hawkins' fan responded to this articulate tweet, writing, "How you found the words to describe this moment is beyond me, I’m just scrolling and crying at all of the amazing things being said about him, moments like these that make it so hard to be a Rock and Metal fan, because of how interconnected the community is..."
More Twitter users felt Grohl's grief, as one tweeted, "Losing one best friend who has barely begun to live their adult life is a tragedy. Losing another who is halfway through theirs is devastating. My heart is heavy for Dave today, someone I've greatly admired and respected for many years."
Fans Instagram Battle Over Dave Grohl & Taylor Hawkins
On Instagram, there was another battle being fought. An Instagram user commented on the Foo Fighters' official statement, writing, "I can’t even…. Omg. I am so sorry, Dave. I know you and Taylor go way back. There are a ton of broken hearts tonight. 💔"
A troll decided to get in, and have their say, writing, "Dave, Pat, Rami, Nate, Chris, etc. The other band members are probably grieving too. Thought I’d let you know their names."
Another Instagram user jumped to the first one's defense, writing, "Pat and Dave have gone through this already. Foo Fighters was Dave’s therapy for the loss of Kurt Cobain. Of course, we’re gonna think of Dave first..."
The troll got a reply from the guy who commented about Grohl in the first place and they wrote, "despite how sh***y you’re being about my particular approach in processing my own feelings while other fans are also coming to grieve and pay their respects, I do want to hold space for the way you feel about it. Yes, I know their names, and I saw them play the @rockhall show in October. However, Dave went way back with Taylor and had also gone through losing Kurt, so excuse the f*** out of me for not meeting YOUR standards for proper protocol. I didn’t realize yours was the only way to go about it. Why don’t you just let people deal in their own way, dude? Don’t come in here with that vibe."
