Actors and actresses put forth a lot of effort to prepare their bodies for a role. These thespians stay faithful to their profession, whether that means going on an extreme diet to lose weight or even piling on the pounds.

"Les Miserables" star Anne Hathaway is no exception.

To prepare for her newest part in the upcoming AppleTV+ series "WeCrashed," the actress embraced a raw vegan diet. She revealed this news in an interview with "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" on Tuesday, explaining the reason behind the decision.

In "WeCrashed," Hathaway plays Rebekah Neumann, the wife of WeWork founder Adam Neumann. The businesswoman is renowned for sticking to a vegan diet; a lifestyle Hathaway tried to imitate for the role. She avoided all animal-based meals and only ate raw or prepared items at temperatures below 40°C.

Referencing her vegan diet, the 39-year old said to Colbert, "I became Vegan." She further explained that Rebekah's lifestyle influenced her decision to choose the no-meat path.

"Rebekah is a very passionate vegan." "'I think I'm a vegan now,'" she said. "Like, 'I think this is it ... I know I've done it before, and I know it's never stuck, but I think this is the time that I'm doing it."

Sadly, Hathaway's decision to go completely vegan was short live. Barely weeks after filming, she started craving meat once more and went off the diet.

Throughout the period required for the film production, Hathaway tried her best to keep to the vegan diet. She told Colbert that husband Adam Shulman backed her choice at the time, even joining her on some occasions to have vegan meals.

And when Hathaway decided she was going off the diet, Shulman did not bat an eye, simply going with the new flow.

"Three weeks later, when I was like 'I need a burger,' the actress recalled a conversation with her husband.

"He was like 'OK,'" added Hathaway.

Now, Hathaway is fully back to eating meat, even sampling some venison on her recent trip to Texas last weekend.

Hathaway has dabbled into the vegan lifestyle in the past. She turned vegan before her debut as Catwoman in 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises." While preparing for the role, Hathaway's diet consisted of whole grains to control blood sugar, avocados, almonds, sesame seeds, dark chocolate, bright red and orange antioxidant-rich vegetables, dark leafy greens, ginger, and turmeric.

The actress also incorporated a lot of seitan and tempeh (plant-based meat alternatives) into her diet plans. It helped maintain her protein levels throughout intensive training sessions to fit the physique of the feline anti-hero.

She maintained her vegan diet until 2014. At the time, Hathaway was filming "Interstellar" in a region in Iceland and ended her vegan run by accompanying an adventurous co-star to a Reykjavík restaurant to eat fish.

Comparing Hathaway's past vegan stint with the recent one, it is clear that the former had a more extended period. While talking with Colbert, the actress defended her decision not to spend more time immersing herself in her character's lifestyle, citing her two boys as the reason.

"Let me explain. My kids love me, and I'm sure on some level care about what I do, but also just want their mom, so," she said.

Although Hathaway quit the vegan diet, she still practices yoga, another skill she picked up for the role. The actress' "WeCrashed" feature will help tell the story of WeWork's growth from a single shared office space to a worldwide brand worth $47 billion and its subsequent stock plummeting due to several scandals and missed opportunities.
