In her nearly four-decade career, singer and songwriter Aimee Mann has rarely held back when it comes to expressing her feelings to their full extent. When it comes to reflecting on the aftermath of her latest career venture, Mann is making no exception.

Mann, who released her tenth studio album since embarking on a solo career last Fall, was set to join veteran rock band Steely Dan on their upcoming Summer tour beginning in May.

However, the former 'Til Tuesday singer announced on her Instagram the band had "dropped" her from their tour line-up unbeknownst to her.

Mann, who is very active on Instagram and frequently posts her hand-drawn comic strips on her feed, revealed the news through a new strip.

In the strip, she wrote, "I was supposed to open for Steely Dan this summer. I just found out they took me off the bill. No one is entirely sure why, but it seems they thought their audience wouldn't like a female singer-songwriter? As it happens, Steely Dan is the only band I 100% love, with no reservations, so it really sucks. But you know what? People are allowed not to like you for whatever reason."

Mann's comment section on her post was soon filled with supportive wishes.

Author Roz Chast commented, "This is very disappointing. You are the greatest. I love your music so much. They made a stupid decision."

Musician Margo Price also weighed in, saying "laaaaaaame."

What The Band Had To Say

Steely Dan's Donald Fagan soon put any rumors of animosity between the two parties to rest by releasing a statement exclusive to Pitchfork.

Fagen said, "Well, first of all, the idea that I would make any decision based on the gender of a performer is ridiculous. That's something that would never, even occur to me.

There was a communication problem on our end. I was misinformed as to how firm the commitment was to any particular opening act. And, although I have the greatest respect for Aimee as a writer and performer, I thought it might not be the best matchup in terms of musical style.

But I can't pass the buck. I'll take the blame for the screwup. I apologize for any distress this has caused Aimee and her fans."

If the ending of Mann's comic strip is any indication, (she ended the post with "Good luck to all bands), it seems as if matters will eventually be repaired.

A Little Introduction To Aimee Mann

While we may not get to see Mann join Steely Dan out on the road with their fellow touring band Snarky Puppy, fans and newcomers to Mann's work have a wide archive of material to check out if they are curious about her legacy.

Mann rose to fame back in the Eighties as a member of the band 'Til Tuesday. The band was widely known for their song "Voices Carry." The song's music video also received lots of airplay on MTV.

The band broke up by the early Nineties and Mann emerged with her first solo record called "Whatever."

Almost 30 years after the album's release, Mann clearly doesn't have a "whatever" type of stance to being a solo musician.

Since releasing "Whatever," Mann has released nine additional albums with the most recent being "Queens Of The Summer Hotel," which was partly inspired by "Girl Interrupted."

You may remember "Girl Interrupted" from its film adaptation starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie!

If you're interested in seeing Mann on the small screen, she appeared on an episode of the cult series "Portlandia" with 'SNL's Fred Armisen and Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein.

Mann has also been featured in an Oscar-winning film! Her song "Save Me" was also nominated for the Best Original Song Academy Award in 1999.
