Several actors have various methods of embodying roles, but some are more extreme than others. Besides being famous for his acting talent, Jared Leto has a reputation for his method acting style. The actor could go months as a character in his movie on and offset.
He recently starred in the crime drama “House of Gucci” as the family outcast, Paolo Gucci. While the actor didn’t get the best comments about his performance, it earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award and Critics’ Choice Award nominations.
Anne Hathaway, who recently starred in “WeCrashed” with Leto, talked about how she got him to break out of character one time. The two were still deep into filming, and Leto was as deep if not deeper into his method acting. Hathaway revealed that the “House of Gucci” trailer had just come out. She couldn’t stop herself from giving a little performance, which startled enough the actor to break character.

The “Colossal” actress recently appeared in an episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and talked about a funny moment she has with “Suicide Squad” actor, Leto. The two were filming scenes for their joint project, “WeCrashed,” when the trailer of “House of Gucci” was released.
Hathaway revealed that she trolled the fellow actor with a Lady Gaga impersonation after an intense day of filming. She surprised Leto by performing Gaga’s “House of Gucci” prayer, with the sign of the cross and ever-present Italian accent in tow.
When recalling the incident, Hathaway said, “I really respect Jared’s process, and I had a wonderful time working with whoever that was, and we really created the most beautiful connection between us. The day the ‘House of Gucci’ trailer came out, I mean, I had to go to something. I couldn’t just let it be. [I said], ‘Just one more thing,’ and I go, ‘Father, Son, House of Gucci,’ because you have to!”
Jared Leto’s Reaction To Anne Hathaway’s Performance
While working on their upcoming Apple TV+ series, Hathaway revealed that her co-star, Leto, never once broke character during the six months of shooting. The 50-year-old played an Israeli founder and CEO of a company, Adam Neumann, while Hathaway played his wife, Rebekah.
Hathaway revealed that when she gave her “House of Gucci” performance, they were three to four months into filming, and the method acting continued when the cameras weren’t rolling. About his reaction to her performance, she said, “I didn’t know what would happen because he’s so intense in his commitment to his process, but I swear to God, he split into three.”
The actress added that the reaction was like a “Horcrux.” “It was like over here was Jared, here was Paola Gucci, and here was Adam Neumann,” she said. Hathaway recalled that the actor looked disoriented after. “I was like ‘Oh dear,’ and he was like, ‘Woah, I think I just time traveled.’”
Jared Leto Is Famous For His Method Acting
One thing you don’t see every day is Leto’s method acting style. The actor is famous for living as his current movie character both on and off set during filming. There were instances in the past where other cast members mentioned some things the “Dallas Buyers Club” actor did while still in character.
One rumor circulated about his time as the Joker on the set of “Suicide Squad.” Leto’s cast members were allegedly sent used condoms and dead rats, which was linked to the actor. He denied any involvement in that.
Another instance was while filming “Blade Runner 2049,” where the actor made himself partially blind to get more of a feel of his character. He apparently put on special contact lenses for the role. Leto’s latest tv appearance as Paolo Gucci in “House of Gucci” also received the famed method acting.
Lady Gaga Has A Similar Method Acting Style
Lady Gaga was another actress who approached acting similarly but not quite extremely as Leto. The singer played Patrizia Reggiani in “House of Gucci” and revealed that after staying in character throughout the entire production, she experienced “psychological difficulty.”
Whether she was in her hotel room or on set, the actress said she lived and spoke like her character Patrizia. This apparently led to some difficulties towards the end of filming. Overall, Gaga stayed in character as Patrizia for an entire year and a half.
Gaga received a lot of praise for her role as the Italian woman. Despite the heights she had to go for the role, she wasn’t given an Academy Award nomination for her performance. Knowing the actress, she should be back in maybe a year to outperform for the coveted Oscar.
