Schumer started off her career in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian and was a frequent guest on Comedy Central. She also had her own comedy sketch show on the network, Inside Amy Schumer, and she won a Peabody Award for it. She and the show were also nominated for several Emmy Awards.

After that ended, Schumer starred in several comedy feature films, including "Snatched" and "I Feel Pretty." She had her film writing debut with "Trainwreck," which Judd Apatow directed. That film explored the actress' relationship with her Dad, much like what she has planned for Life & Beth.

The title Life & Beth actually comes from her middle name, Beth, and will follow her film style of exploring her childhood, adolescence, and parental relationships.

During an interview with THR, Schumer opened up about she intends to share the story of her and her mom's relationship in the premiere season of Life & Beth. She revealed that despite their destructive dynamic, she always knew her mom loved her as a child.

Schumer then explained that her mom has since owned up to all her mistakes, accepted her flaws, and apologized. The complexity of their relationship will certainly add an interesting and complex layer to the show that viewers can relate to.

She said, "My mom was really destructive and did really harmful stuff, and also I felt so special and loved growing up. And she's been really fucking cool about all of it. She's like, 'I'm 73, I own my mistakes,' and that's the thing: My mom is insanely flawed, and I also love her an insane amount."

Life & Beth Also Explores Schumer's Romance Life

The show goes further than just Schumer's relationship with her mother. It will also explore the romantic elements of her life. This is obvious because Cera's character John has several striking similarities to Schumer's husband, Chris Fischer.

Cera reportedly even spent time with Fischer to understand him and study his behavior. The show's plot also reportedly mimics some of Schumer and Fischer's real love story elements.

This is more interesting because Schumer pitched the show while pregnant, so it'll be some sort of memory for her family. Fischer said he is in love with the idea "that they will now have this time capsule of their love story through the show."

Schumer Wrote And Produced The Show

Asides from starring in the show as Beth, Schumer also has writing and producing credits. While her relationship with her mom will be a core focus of the show, her usual comic relief and the romance aspect will lighten things up a bit.

Schumer has shown in her several drama films, such as "The Humans," that she could execute a dramatic role. Life & Beth will premiere on Hulu on March 18th and be available on Disney+ subsequently.
