Cardi B is claiming self-defense in an ongoing lawsuit filed by a security guard she allegedly brawled within Los Angeles.
According to new legal documents, obtained by The Blast, the 'WAP' rapper legally responded to the allegations claiming her actions were "reasonably necessary" to protect herself from the "assault."
As we reported, Cardi was sued by a woman named Emani Ellis, who was working as a security guard in Beverly Hills during the confrontation with the rapper. Back in 2018, Ellis claims she was attacked while on the job by CB, and was "violently, unlawfully, intentionally, suddenly and maliciously striking her about the head, face, and body, placing (her) in great for her life and physical well-being, and legally causing her to sustain injuries and damages."
Cardi B Says She Was Defending Herself In Security Guard Brawl
At the time, the security guard said Cardi, "spit on (her) and used multiple profanities and racial slurs against (her) who is African-American."
It should be noted, neither person has described why in the world Cardi B would be fighting with a random security guard inside a high-end location in Beverly Hills. She did comment on the case, saying, "Why don’t you guys post the part where the doctor's office said that that’s not what happen? and if I assaulted why she didn’t press charges? Why would I put my hands on some1 twice my size by myself while I’m experiencing sharp pain 4 months pregnant?" The tweet was later deleted.
But, in the new filing, Cardi says she was involved in the fight but the case should be dismissed based on her conduct, which "was reasonably necessary for her self-defense and safety and was justified by (the security guards) assault."
L.A. Security Guard Claims She Has 'Permanent Disablities' Due To Cardi B's Alleged Attack
Cardi's defense, in this case, included a few other items like "Speculative Damages" saying she "cannot recover any damages alleged because such damages, if any, are too speculative to be recoverable by law."
What are the damages you ask? Well, in the original lawsuit, the woman claims Cardi B's own security team jumped into the melee and she suffered "shock and injury to her nervous system. Now, she says she suffers from ongoing physical injuries resulting in "permanent disability." Plus, she claims Cardi used her celebrity status to get her fired from the security job, following the fight.
It's unclear how much money she is looking for, but says it's over $25,000. The cost includes "future medical issues will require doctors, physicians, nurses, and hospital — including medication MRI scan, x-rays, etc."
Security Guard Says Cardi B's Team Had Video Of The Incident 'Erased'
The next obvious question is whether or not there is a video of the incident to back up one side to this story. Obviously, there is a video in a building off of Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills. But, the security guard says Cardi's team was involved in "wilful destruction of evidence, namely having the recorded footage of the of the incident erased."
Normally, a case like this one is cheaper to settle instead of fighting it -- especially for someone as rich as Cardi B. But, it appears the rapper isn't going down without a [legal] fight and might be willing to take this distance to prove her innocence.
Cardi B made huge news this week after pulling out of a new comedy movie called, 'Assisted Living.' The film was just a week away from starting production, and other cast and crew were just told the film in on hold. The rapper was set to play a low-level criminal on the run when she's wrongly accused of a crime.
The case is ongoing.
