On Wednesday, the 24th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards were held in person at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica after going virtual in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Actors Andrew Rannells of “The Prom” and Casey Wilson of “The Shrink Next Door” co-hosted the star-studded ceremony. The awards are voted on by the members of the Costume Designers Guild, which includes more than one thousand designers and illustrators. There are a total of eight categories nominated that include both film, television, and other visual media.

Who Were The Top Winners At The Costume Designers Awards?

Among the top winners of the night was “Dune” for a sci-fi or fantasy film, “Coming 2 America,” for a contemporary film, and “Cruella’ for a period film. In terms of television, the Disney+ “Star Wars” series “The Book of Boba Fett” won for a sci-fi or fantasy show, “Emily in Paris: French Revolution” won for contemporary television, and “The Great: Seven Days” won for Period Television.

“Saturday Night Live” also won for excellence in a variety, reality-competition, or live television, and the Swarovski commercial “Welcome to Wonderlab” won for Short Form Design.

Costumer Designers Guild Inducts Late Anthony Powell

In addition to the winners, the Costume Designers Guild Awards also presented Andrew Garfield with the Spotlight Award. “Spider-Man” producer Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor were recognized for their work and costume designer Sharen Davis received the Career Achievement Award for her work on “King Richard,” “Ray,” and “Dreamgirls,” among others.

During the ceremony, Glenn Close also inducted late costume designer Anthony Powell, who won three Academy Awards into the Costume Designers Guild Hall of Fame. Powell passed away in April 2021 at the age of 85.
