Some were surprised to see Morgan Wallen win for Album of the Year. In February 2021, he garnered controversy when he was caught making a racial slur towards a friend on video. He was banned from attending the American Music Awards last fall due to the incident. During his acceptance speech, he thanked “those who showed me grace along the way.”
