Cheryl Burke and Matthew Lawrence continue to quietly mourn the end of their marriage offline.
However, many of their fans are curious what the real reason is behind their shocking split.
Last week, we reported that Burke filed for divorce in Los Angeles, CA. after nearly three years of marriage.
Cheryl & Matthew Are Getting Divorced
The couple got engaged in May 2018, tied the knot a year later in 2019 and decided to call for a dissolution of marriage on February 18, 2022.
The “Dancing with the Stars” pro has been more vocal about the divorce on social media than her estranged husband.
While she hasn’t outright said WHY their marriage had to end, she did confirm the marriage was officially over.
At this point, it’s unclear what happened in the couple’s relationship, but Burke cited “irreconcilable differences” as the legal reason for their divorce. The couple does not have any minor children, so custody won’t be an issue in this case.
Cheryl Cited "Irreconcilable Differences"
Speaking of children, was this a sensitive subject for the couple that eventually led to the divorce?
An insider exclusively revealed to Us Weekly whether or not kids played a role in the dissolution of their marriage.
The insider told the outlet Burke and Lawrence are “keeping divorce matters private,” but the “reason” for their breakup “was not about having kids.”
They also revealed that Burke is “taking this time to focus on next steps and focus on her mental health.”
This adds up with what she’s been posting on her personal Instagram account.
The Blast reported yesterday on her trip to visit her and Lawrence’s wedding venue.
Cheryl Is Taking Time To "Feel My Feelings"

On Monday, February 28, the dancing pro took to IG again to alert fans that she is taking some time to herself to reflect on her divorce.
She posted a bare faced photo of herself along with a pic of her and her French Bulldog, Ysabella.
Burke captioned the photos, " Taking a few days alone to focus inward, reflect and really try to feel my feelings - with my partner in crime of course ♥️.”
She continued her note to shed light on the situation in Ukraine writing, “I think it’s important to note, that I am so fortunate to be able to pause and take this time for myself. As much as I may be going through personally, it is nothing compared to the suffering in Ukraine right now. If you haven’t already, please visit the link in my description to see how you can help.”
In the divorce filing, Burke claims the couple separated on January 7, 2022, after 2 years and 7 months of marriage. Interestingly, the professional dancer is asking for the court to terminate its right to award spousal support to either party. The documents reveal the couple entered into a prenuptial agreement on May 20, 2019 — but, it’s unclear if any money will change hands following the split.
Obviously, both individuals are wealthy and were famous before they got together.
