An Emotional Moment

In February 2021, the "Hope & Faith" star opened up about Joaquin having dyslexia and dysgraphia, which are learning disabilities that make reading and writing difficult. So when Consuelos learned that his son earned a place at college, he teared up.
"Joaquin is trying to decide on a college right now and he has a lot of options," Ripa told co-host Ryan Seacrest on their show.
"Mark and I were Facetiming the other night, and youโll be surprised to know -- because youโre nothing like this at all -- Mark got very emotional and choked up and said, 'I never thought he would be able to go to college,' because he was profoundly dyslexic and dysgraphic, she explained.
Ripa added that it was through "hard work, determination, and remediation" that got Joaquin into Michigan State University. She also noted that her youngest son is the first of her three children to move out of New York state for college.

The TV host then said that Joaquin's dyslexia and dysgraphia were actually a blessing.
โKids with dyslexia learn how to read the room, they pick up on social cues," Ripa noted. "Their other skills become [stronger]," while adding that Joaquin loves to read.
In March, Joaquin announced on Instagram that he will be attending the University of Michigan, where he is a member of the wrestling team.
"Super excited to step into this next chapter with @umichwrestling! Honored to be part of this great program," he wrote. "Big thank you to @the_wrestling_coach , @buddylasta , @izzystylewrestling , and @seanbormet."
