Tom Cruise is definitely one of the A-list actors of Hollywood. The actor is known for his role as an American special spy agent, Ethan Hunt, in the wildly popular "Mission Impossible" franchise. The first movie was released as far back as 1996 and the last 2018; there are six movies released so far.
Like most actors, Cruise had a humble beginning and lived with his mother after his father left when he was 12. He got into acting in the early 1980s with his appearance in the comedy movie "Risky Business."
In a recent interview, the actor's first manager revealed some traits Cruise had. Eileen Berlin handled Cruise when he first got into Hollywood and admitted he was quite a handful. She mentioned that he had a "terrible temper" and even threw a book at her one time.
Cruise Stayed With Berlin At The Beginning Of His Acting Career
Cruise's first manager, Berlin, appeared in an interview with The Daily Mail to talk about her time handling the actor. During his early years as an actor, she was basically a "surrogate mother" to Cruise.
According to Berlin, the "Mission Impossible" actor started working with her not long after turning 18. He was still a struggling actor then, and at some point, he had to move in with her and her husband because he didn't have enough money to rent an apartment.
She said Cruise was always respectful and "mannerly to a fault" towards her and her husband. He also always addressed them as "ma'am" and "sir." However, she saw a completely different side of him in 2020. Via The Sun, the actor was recorded yelling at his "Mission: Impossible 7" crew for breaking some COVID-19 safety rules.
Berlin Said Cruise Had A 'Lot Of Anger'
The 82-year-old who knew Cruise as "Tommy" also talked about what she called his "terrible temper." She said, "Tommy had a terrible temper. He harbored a lot of anger at his natural father. He was moody and would get angry at the snap of your fingers. It was like something was smoldering, and it would boil up and explode. I put it down to his insecurity."
Via CBS, Cruise opened up about his rather shaky relationship with his father. In an interview with Parade magazine, he mentioned that his father, Thomas Cruise Mapother III left his mother when he was just 12 and took his sister along. He said that he was "a bully and a coward."
In the interview, he went further by saying his father was "the kind of person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you. It was a great lesson in my life - how he'd lull you in, make you feel safe, and then, bang!" He continued, "For me, it was like, "'There's something wrong with this guy. Don't trust him. Be careful around him.' There's that anxiety."

Berlin talked about an incident involving Cruise, a teen magazine, and her face. She revealed that she showed the actor an album with articles about him by teen magazines. His reaction wasn't what she expected.
"He screamed, 'I don't want to be in the teen mags,'" she said. "He had told me he considered himself an adult, not a teen idol. He threw the album hard at me, and it hit me on the cheek." The former manager also said she hadn't seen the actor truly happy before.
Berlin said, "He was always very, very ambitious, very, very determined to be a star. And that made him a perfectionist. That's what drove him when I managed him, and I'm sure that's what drives him now."
Cruise Refused To Talk To A Waitress While In Character
In the same interview, Berlin shared an incident when Cruise didn't want to talk to a waitress because he wasn't out of character yet. She said the incident happened while he was shooting a 1981 movie called "Taps" at Valley Forge Military Academy, Pennsylvania.
Berlin recalled, "The waitress asked him, 'Aren't you one of the actors?' Tom said to us, 'Please tell her not to ask me any questions. I'm still in character.'" She also added that she thought Cruise was a perfectionist when it came to his acting career.
