Only one day before his late father’s birthday, son Robert Irwin revealed that he was making his father, the late “Crocodile Hunter,” proud by following in his footsteps and taking steps to help protect koalas, which have been listed as an endangered species.
“Koalas have officially been listed as an endangered species,” Robert began. “Here in Australia, we pride ourselves on being home to some of the most prolific and unique species on the planet and koalas are undoubtedly the icons of our native wildlife.”
“But, Australia is also home to the highest mammal extinction rate of any country on earth,” he continued. “This upgrade in koala conservation status is yet another devastating reminder of the threats that climate change and habitat loss pose to our natural world. We have a lot of work to do if we are going to create positive change for koalas and the many other species in strife.”
Robert then shocked many fans when he revealed that none other than Seth MacFarlane had actually helped them finish construction on their koala ICU in their wildlife hospital in Robert’s home country of Australia.
“We are so happy to be doing our part. Through the support of @macfarlaneseth we’re proud to have finished construction on a purpose built, state of the art koala ICU at our wildlife hospital,” he continued. “This gives us the opportunity to cope with the huge numbers of koalas that we treat at the hospital and provide life-saving care.”
“Our goal is for each koala to be rehabilitated and released back to the wild,” he concluded. “Together we can all ensure that these truly special animals are on the planet forever.”
Fans Join Seth MacFarlane In Expressing Concern For The Koala
Many fans had mixed reactions to the news. Although they were glad to see that the ICU was being built, many expressed concern for the koala. Many did not seem to be aware that koalas were now an endangered species.
“This is utterly heartbreaking news to know that koalas are now listed as an endangered species,” one fan wrote. “They need to be protected for generations to come.”
“Oh, this is 😢 news!” another shared. “I am hopeful with people like you this situation will change!”
“Congratulations Robert!” said another. “Your work is beautiful and wonderful! 💚🙏”
“Such sad news 😔 thank you for all of your conservation work! 🙏” another shared.
