DC superhero/supervillain series "Peacemaker" was released mid-January and had the most welcoming reception. The show was based on one of the characters of the 2021 release of "The Suicide Squad."
The series' lead character is Christopher 'Chris' Smith, known by his superhero name Peacemaker. While the series had its moments of hilarity, it also had its share of sentimental scenes. The DC anti-hero was played by the "Bumblebee" actor, John Cena.
The season finale was released on February 17, and a new season is reportedly underway. Writer and director James Gunn did such a great job with this first season that he'll have an even more hands-on role in season two. The upcoming season is sure to be even better than the first.

The last episode of HBO's "Peacemaker" was released in February, and fans were shocked by the unexpected end. The show had eight episodes and is set five months after "The Suicide Squad" movie. The credit scene of the film showed that Christopher Smith survived a fatal shooting and was recruited by the US government for a new mission dubbed Project Butterfly.
The season finale was titled "It's Cow Or Never," referring to Project Butterfly's attack on the Butterflies. While Peacemaker and Task Force X got the better of the invaders, there were several casualties within the team. Fans of the series were left wondering who suffered fatal injuries and who would make it to the next season.
The show's first three episodes premiered on HBO Max on January 13, and the rest were released weekly until February 17. Upon its release, critics described the show as "Shocking" and "explosive," as well as using words like "hilarious" and "unbelievably raunchy."
James Gunn Will Write And Direct' Peacemaker' Season Two
The DC series was written and directed mainly by Gunn. The director reportedly penned the whole show for fun in 2020 then pitched it to DC Films when asked about a spinoff for one character in "The Suicide Squad." HBO wasted no time ordering production to kick-off for the "Peacemaker" series.
With the first season's success, it's no surprise the DC superhero/supervillain show was renewed for a second season. Warner Bros also revealed Gunn would handle this season too. The writer directed five out of the eight episodes of the first season and will reportedly handle all the episodes of the next one.
'Peacemaker' Is The First DC Show To Premiere On HBO Max
In a recent interview, HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey talked about "Peacemaker" and how the streaming platform was thrilled by the viewers' response to the DC series. She said, "The brilliance of James Gunn once again shines with 'Peacemaker.'"
Aubrey added, "He took this character, brought to life by the inimitable John Cena, and created an exceptional series that's simultaneously thrilling, hilarious, and heartfelt, showcasing the humanity beneath this team of misfits living in a superhuman world. As the first original DC show to have its series premiere on HBO Max, we are thrilled that the viewers agreed to give peace a f***ing chance."
Gunn, on his part, talked about how he enjoyed making the DC series with his team and that it was "one of the true highlights of my life." He added, "To have something we all love so much be loved by the audience, in turn, has been a wonderful experience. I can't wait for folks to see where Team Peacemaker goes in Season Two!"
Gunn Will Have More Directional Duties In 'Peacemaker' Season Two
While Jody Hill, Rosemary Rodriguez, and Brad Anderson did a particularly great job for the three episodes they directed, the show will undoubtedly have a tonal consistency with Gunn holding the reins.
The director seems to be the best person to carry out his writing. His episodes were clearly the best and most well structured of the first season, so, with just him in charge of directorial duties next season, it'll be sure to be even better.
Gunn's hilarious and witty take on the superhero didn't overshadow the sentimental and heartfelt interactions with his teammates. The following season might go even deeper in probing the newly formed relationships among the crew.
