On Friday, Film at Lincoln Center announced Cate Blanchett as the recipient of the 47th Chaplin Award, which the actress will receive during a gala honoring her on April 25th at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.

The actress makes history by becoming the second-youngest person to land the award after Tom Hanks, who received the award in 2009. Both stars earned the accolade during their 52nd year. However, Hanks was 38 days younger than Blanchett at the time.

The night of the ceremony will play out as a joyous celebration of the actor's tremendous filmography, with noteworthy speakers, film excerpts, and deep conversations about her storied career, concluding with the awarding of the Chaplin Award.

The Chaplin Award started in 1972, with Charlie Chaplin being the first recipient to receive the award. At the time, Chaplin was in exile from the United States but returned to accept the honor.

Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Federico Fellini, Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Davis, James Stewart, Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sidney Poitier, Barbra Streisand, Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Helen Mirren, and Spike Lee have all received the Chaplin Award since its inception.

The Announcement

The statement from Film at Lincoln Center about the upcoming award ceremony detailed their pleasure at celebrating Blanchett's iconic acting journey that has spanned independent films, blockbusters, and the stage.

"We are thrilled to welcome Cate Blanchett back to Film at Lincoln Center, where three of her films have previously screened as part of the New York Film Festival," Lesli Klainberg, FLC's executive director, stated in his write-up.

"Ms. Blanchett's career includes extraordinary performances in films ranging from small independent efforts to major studio franchises and with some of the most renowned directors of our time. It is our privilege to dedicate an evening of celebration to her and add one more accolade to her many well-deserved awards."

"It's a privilege to honor Ms. Blanchett at this year's Chaplin Gala. She never ceases to amaze us with her stellar and wide-ranging performances, and we're excited to have her join us for this special evening on campus at Lincoln Center," added Daniel Stern, the current FLC's board chairman.

Blanchett is now in preproduction for Alfonso Cuarón's Apple series "Disclaimer." She also just concluded filming her role on Todd Field's forthcoming picture "Tar," as well as wrapping up her part on Eli Roth's "Borderlands."

She recently starred in Adam McKay's "Don't Look Up" and partook in Guillermo del Toro's "Nightmare Alley" and "Pinocchio." Blanchett will also executively produce and act in Pedro Almodóvar's first English-language feature film, "A Manual for Cleaning Women," as well as Warwick Thornton's "The New Boy."

She and her collaborators Andrew Upton and Coco Francini are the co-founders and principals of the film and television production firm, Dirty Films. Dirty Films most recently executive produced Christos Nikou's "Apples," in addition to "Mrs. America" for FX and Hulu, as well as the Netflix limited series "STATELESS."
