Singer Ed Sheeran is turning 31 today!

The critically acclaimed singer-songwriter was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, on February 17, 1991. He was raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, where he began writing songs at the age of 11.

In 2011, Ed Sheeran signed with Asylum Records and released his debut album + (plus). It topped the U.K. albums chart and his hit single “The A Team” made him an international success. In 2012, he won the BRIT Award for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act.

In 2014, Sheeran again topped the chart with his second debut album, x (multiply). A year later, it won Album of the Year at the 2015 BRIT Awards. He also received the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors. His hit single “Thinking Out Loud” earned him two 2016 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Solo Pop Performance.

In 2017, he released his third album, ÷ (divide). It was the best-selling album across the globe in 2017. His two singles “Shape of You” and “Perfect” were standouts from the album. Later that year, he was named the Global Recording Artist of the Year. In 2019, he released his fourth studio album “No.6 Collaborations Project” before releasing his fifth studio album, = (equals), in 2021.

Sheeran is one of the world’s best-selling artists. He has sold over 150 million records worldwide and two of his albums are on the list of the best-selling albums in U.K. chart history. In 2019, the Official Charts Company named him Artist of the Decade. Spotify has also named him the second most-streamed artist of the decade.
