It seems producer Jack Antonoffisn’t done yet!
In January, the “Blur” and “Gorillaz” frontman Damon Albarn came at “All Too Well” singer Taylor Swift and accused her of not writing her own songs to the chagrin of many, many fans.
Albarn criticized the “I Bet You Think About Me” singer in an interview with The Los Angeles Times while promoting his new album “The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows.”
When it was suggested that Swift was a good example of an “excellent songwriter,” Albarn disagreed.
“That doesn’t count,” he said. “I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing.”
“I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes,” he continued. “Doesn’t mean that the outcome can’t be really great.”
Taylor Swift Claps Back On Twitter: ‘Your Hot Take Is Completely False’
PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering 😑

Taylor retweeted the article to remind Albarn and everyone else that she does indeed write her own songs.
“@DamonAlbarn I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this,” she tweeted. “I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f—ed up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”
She followed it up by writing, “PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering.”
i’ve never met damon albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs taylor writes and brings in. herb.

Even producer Jack Antonoff, who has worked with Swift on several albums, went off on Albarn on Twitter. “i’ve never met damon albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs taylor writes and brings in. herb,” he tweeted.
He later added, “if you were there … cool … go off. If not … maybe … shut the f--- up?”
Damon Albarn Apologizes... But Not Really
I totally agree with you. i had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand. - Damon

Shortly after his comments started going viral, Albarn issued an apology that fans noted didn't seem all that apologetic.
“I totally agree with you,” Albarn wrote. “i had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand. – Damon.”
“What part of this was reduced to clickbait?” asked comedian Alex Goldschmidt. “You said her songwriter doesn’t count as songwriting and then compared her to another female artist with a completely different style. Don’t gaslight and throw someone else under the bus because you never thought she’d call you out.”

Jack Antonoff Sounds Off On Damon Albarn Again, Compares Him To Donald Trump!
Antonoff, who also serves as frontman for the “Bleachers,” recently appeared on The What podcast hosted by Brad Steiner to promote his upcoming appearance at the 2022 Bonnaroo Festival. While they were chatting, the topic of songwriting came up, and Antonoff was quick to defend Swift once again, calling Albarn’s comments “completely absurd.”
“Obviously, it’s completely absurd and everyone knows that,” Antonoff said. “You’re talking about one of the greatest songwriters of our generation who has her name as the only name on many songs. You don’t need me to explain it. It’s fact.”
Antonoff then compared Albarn to former President Donald Trump.
“I don’t like it when artists take almost this Trumpian approach of just making things up,” he said.
“I don’t care if Damon Albarn or anyone likes or doesn’t like something, but to unequivocally make a statement that isn’t true… not to get to deep on it, but isn’t that kind of everything that’s wrong with our world at the moment? People talking about s--- that they have no clue about?” he went on.
“But to launch this weird, baseless [claim] with this bravado that it’s fact,” he continued. “Maybe before you say that, you should shut the f--- up.”
Neither Taylor Swift nor Damon Albarn has yet to comment on Jack Antonoff's latest comments.
