Singer Garth Brooks is celebrating his 60th birthday today!

The country singer and songwriter was born on February 7, 1962, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His combination of pop and rock elements into the country music genre has helped him reach overwhelming success in his career!

Brooks has three children and has been married twice. He was married to Sandy Mahl from 1986 to 2001 and has been married to Trisha Yearwood since 2005.

Garth Brooks is the only musical artist in history to have released nine albums that have all achieved diamond status.

Brooks has actually released 23 records total: 13 studio albums, 2 live albums, 3 compilation albums, 3 Christmas albums, 4 box sets, and 77 singles!

During his career, he has won 2 Grammy Awards, 17 American Music Awards, and the RIAA Award for the best-selling solo albums artist of the century in the U.S.

He took a break from recording between 2001 to 2005 due to problems at home but kept his career active by releasing singles now and then. In 2005, he started to give limited performances which led to a periodic residency called Garth at Wynn in Las Vegas' Encore Theatre from 2009 to 2014.

In 2014, he signed with Sony Music Nashville and began his comeback world tour with his current wife, musician Trisha Yearwood. The tour ended in 2017 but he returned with his Stadium Tour in 2019. He released his latest album "Fun" the following year.

Brooks has become one of the world's best-selling artists, having sold over 170 million albums. According to the RIAA, he is also the best-selling solo albums artist in the United States with 156 million records sold, beating out Elvis Presley. In terms of total album sales, he sits just behind The Beatles.

In 2011, Brooks was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2012, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2016, he was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame. In 2020, Brooks received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. He was the youngest person in history to receive the award at age 58.

Most recently, Brooks performed "Amazing Grace" at President Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20, 2021. At the time, he had said that his performance was an opportunity "to serve" and was meant to serve as a "statement of unity."
