There was something about the hit CBS series, “Criminal Minds” that had many hooked, despite the various ups and downs that happened with the cast members.
The hit series depicted the life of the members of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, or BSU, as they dealt with both personal and professional issues. The series lasted 15 years, all though fans felt that the last and 15th season, with a 10-episode run, was ended a bit too abruptly. But with plans of a revival, fans are thrilled, although talks have been going on for a while now. Here’s what we know.
The “Criminal Minds” Revival
The revival of “Criminal Minds” for Paramount+ was announced nearly a year back, but the going has been slow, leaving the fans swinging between hope and disappointment.
The latest news is that the lead studio behind “Criminal Minds”, ABC Signature has been negotiating a deal with the series’ executive producer, Erica Messer, although a deal has not quite been struck yet. According to Deadline “a license agreement for a 10-episode new season of Criminal Minds has been reached between Paramount+ and the studios behind the crime drama, ABC Signature, and CBS Studios.”
But things have been a bit troubled for the revival on the whole. Last February, the revival was announced with much fanfare but by July end, Paget Brewster tweeted about the revival, writing, “we think it’s dead.”
And now, on February 1, the president of Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, said, “We are still very much in development on “Criminal Minds.” We’ll have more to share on that soon but it is alive and well.”
Plenty Of Cast Shuffling
For a long time, Aaron Hotchner, as in actor Thomas Gibson was the face of the series. But all that ended in 2016, when Gibson had an aggressive altercation with one of the writers of the show during an episode he was directing. Unfortunately, Gibson’s temper got the better of him and he kicked the said writer. While it was first announced that Hotchner was be written out of two episodes of the series, ultimately, he was written out altogether, creating a fan frenzy of sorts.
But there were more who left too. Shemar Moore quit a year before Gibson was fired, and even Paget Brewster left, before rejoining the cast at a later stage. “Homeland’s” Mandy Patinkin also left, as did Lola Glaudini and Jennifer Love-Hewitt.
The last of the cast has wound down to Joe Mantegna, Aisha Tyler, Matthew Gray Gubler, Adam Rodriguez, AJ Cook, and Brewster, among others.
Fans still miss Hotch and Morgan though, writing comments like, “how bout bringing hotch n Morgan back.”
These Cast Members Are Ready To Rejoin “Criminal Minds”
For now, the news is that Mantegna, Vangsness, Rodriguez, Cook, Tyler, and Brewster are ready and willing to come on board to reprise their roles.
The team then being, Senior Agent David Rossi (Mantegna), Agents Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (Cook), Tara Lewis (Tyler), and Luke Alvez (Rodriguez). Finally, there is Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia (Vangsness) and Unit Chief Emily Prentiss (Brewster). That said; series regular Matthew Gray Gubler, may not be reprising his role of Spencer Reid anymore, indicating he was done after 15 years. Daniel Henney, meanwhile, will have to take a call depending on his other production constraints, which is something all the cast members may have to think of.
Contracts have not been signed for any of the characters for now, although fans are hoping they would be soon so that the wait could finally be over and the official announcement finally be there.
Meanwhile, fans keep hoping that their favorites would return to the show, writing. “you guys need to return to the reboot of criminal minds. It won’t be the same. Pleaseeee…”, tagging both Thomas Gibson and Matthew Gray Gubler.
Here’s a quick shot of two old friends meeting and “working on a case” bringing back some fond memories for all the fans of “Criminal Minds.” The end, as fans claim, came too soon for the series, even after 15 long years of airing, and most of the avid audience can to wait for their favorite show to comeback onscreen.
