Brenda Song opens up about motherhood.
The former Disney star, 33, recently spoke to The Cut about how she's handling life as a new mom. She also shared an important tip that has helped her cope with all the stress.
They Are Dedicated Parents
Song, who welcomed her first baby, 9-month-old son Dakota, last April with fiancé Macaulay Culkin, revealed that they are "very hands-on" parents. She also noted that she was fortunate to have a strong support system as she navigates her "fourth trimester."
"My fiancé and I are very hands-on," she told the outlet.
"We don't have a nanny, but my mom has been here with us since my son was born... When I was working, my mom would bring [my son] to set so I could breastfeed and see him during the day. People tell you a lot about labor and pregnancy, but not about the fourth trimester," she continued.
Communication Is Key
"The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" actress also added a note by writing, "To my girlfriends that are pregnant I say, make sure you have help. Because your instinct is to want to do it all and you physically can't."
She also admitted that having a kid "especially the first few months" can be really hard.
"You don't have the patience to be polite with each other," she said.
One way that helped the couple is by "Being communicative when you need help is so important. Instead of having set duties, we just feel each other out. I'll be putting my son down and my partner is like, 'Let me feed the animals and get dinner ready.'"
Having 'FOMO'

While Song had a great support system at home with the "Home Alone" actor, 41, returning to work and taking time away from her baby boy "took a toll" on her.
Less than three months after giving birth, the "Secret Obsession" star had to return to work, filming season two of her Hulu comedy series "Dollface."
"I had no idea what I was doing. I went back to work so early," Song shared. "It was harder than I thought. I pride myself on always being first on set. So to be like, 'Hey, I need 20 minutes to pump,' was difficult."
She explained, "The hours away from my son took a toll on me. Learning my own boundaries while trying to take care of my son and my family — that was hard. But I had a great support system and knew my son was taken care of; I just had FOMO," adding, "Missing those hours with my newborn son, it pains me, but at the end of the day, Mama's got to put food on the table. You've got to make those sacrifices. Hopefully he'll understand."
How It All Started
Song met Culkin in Thailand while working on their movie "Changeland." The couple first sparked dating rumors when they were spotted together grabbing dinner in LA around July 2017.
Culkin had wanted kids ever since. In an interview on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast in August 2018, he spoke about his desire to build a family with Song.
"I'm gonna make some babies," Culkin shared.
"This one's a good one, so I'm probably going to put some babies in her in a little bit. I mean, we've definitely been practicing," he said of Song.
The pair have kept their relationship very private throughout the years. In April 2021, they welcomed their first child together and got engaged earlier this month.

"We're overjoyed," Culkin and Song said in a brief statement about the arrival of their baby boy.
"Macaulay and Brenda have loved being together as a family since welcoming Dakota," an insider told People. "The engagement is the natural next step for them. They are excited for their future together."
Culkin has appeared on Song's Instagram account in August 2020 when the actress made a rare tribute for his 40th birthday. She added a sweet picture of the couple where they wore matching jammies and bunny ears.
"Happy 40th birthday to this magical being," she wrote in the caption. "I could sit here and write endlessly about how wonderful, kind, loving, genuine, loyal, honest, brilliant and hilarious you are, and how grateful I am that I get to share and do this life thing with you."
She continued, "But firstly, that would take me an eternity and secondly, you won’t even see this because you don’t ever use instagram. Hahaha. My unicorn that I never thought could exist, I am luckiest person in the world because I am loved by you."
