Actor Dwayne Johnson knows how to keep it real in the gym.
Yesterday, he posted a video of a sweaty gym session for his Instagram followers, showing him performing shrugs with a ton of weight.
“Midnight therapy in the IP after a long work day – my shrinks are the chains you hear bangin’ around,” he joked.
The “Red Notice” actor may love his time in the iron paradise, but he doesn’t just lift weights. The Rock admitted that he also performs cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
Dwayne Johnson Likes His Cardio Early & Fasted
In an interview with Men’s Journal, Johnson revealed that he does his cardio first thing in the morning before he eats anything.
“I hit my cardio on an empty stomach – which has been keeping my metabolism nice and tight,” he revealed. “That’s how it all starts.”
Performing fasted cardio is a popular method that some fitness enthusiasts use to lose weight. The idea is to do fasted cardio while the body is low on glucose, which is the body’s primary source of energy, so the body will start to burn fat instead.
Although he may want to burn fat, the “Jungle Cruise” actor needs to eat in order to reach that level of muscle bulk. The Rock has admitted that he eats a lot.
How Many Meals Does Dwayne Johnson Eat In One Day?
Some people just eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but Johnson revealed that he eats much more than that in order to maintain his size!
“I eat somewhere between six and seven meals a day, and I try my best to make them balanced as possible with proteins, carbohydrates, good fats – and the occasional sugar at the right times of the day,” he explained.
However, Johnson has also become known for his cheat meals, which he loves to share with his followers on Instagram.
“I understand my cheat days have become quite legendary,” Johnson said. “Those meals are reserved only for Sunday. I very much enjoy them – and enjoy getting to have that kind of fun with my food.”
Here's Some Advice For Fans Looking To Train Hard!
The “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle” actor said that when his fans are hitting the gym, they need to train for themselves.
“When you go into the gym to train, you need to train for yourself only,” he said. “Don’t train for anyone else. Don’t train to impress anyone. Don’t throw a lot of weight on the bar. Don’t let ego come into the equation.”
“Train for yourself. It’s you versus you in there,” he continued. “I’ve never given a f--- about who’s around me in the gym. That’s always served me well. Be focused and get after it.”
Dwayne Johnson Still Struggles To Overcome ‘Mental Adversity’
Even though the actor, former wrestler, and entrepreneur may seem like he can do it all, he admitted that he still struggles just like anyone else. The only difference is that he doesn’t let his obstacles keep him from pursuing his goals.
“I’m still overcoming mental adversity, to be honest,” he said. “That never ends. I’ve sustained a number of injuries over the years that have been difficult to overcome, but I’m lucky that I’ve never been injured in the gym.”
“I was brought up to train hard and train smart,” he continued. “But that didn’t protect me when I was out on the field competing or in the wrestling ring.”
Johnson has had several major injuries during his wrestling career, but he doesn’t let them hold him back.
“I’ve had five knee surgeries, a torn Achilles,” he added. “I had to be sewn back together. The top of my quad was torn from my pelvis. I had a whole bunch of s--- happen. The other major adversity has just been fatigue, which can get us all.”
“I know it gets me, and sometimes the last thing you want to do is go to the gym,” he said. “But when you’re able to push yourself and you fight past that fatigue—that’s when you can find greatness.”
Johnson has been providing his fans with a lot of secrets for his success in the past year, including sharing his motivational personal philosophy to how he achieves his goals with his fans.
