The series follows the employees that work at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital. The series mostly focused on the story of Doctor John Michael Dorian, known as J.D., who was played by Zach Braff. Most of the series revolved around his narrations and wild daydreams.

Joining him in the hospital was Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), who played his on-again-off-again girlfriend until they eventually got married and had a child together. Although she started off as an intern, she later became a private practice doctor.

J.D.’s story wouldn’t be complete without his best friend Christopher Turk, known mainly as Turk. Portrayed by Donald Faison, Turk was a surgical intern who eventually becomes the Chief of Surgery as the series progresses. During the series, he becomes engaged to, and eventually marries, headstrong head nurse Carla Espinosa, played by Judy Reyes.

John C. McGinley became famous for his role as Doctor Perry Cox, an attending physician who later becomes the Chief of Medicine at Sacred Heart. J.D. considers Dr. Cox to be his mentor, even when Dr. Cox regularly ridicules and mocks him by calling him female names. He has an antagonistic relationship with his fiery ex-wife Jordan (Christa Miller), but they gradually rekindle their relationship as the series progresses.

The series wouldn’t be complete without Neil Flynn, who portrayed one of the hospital’s custodians. Known as “The Janitor,” he developed an antagonistic relationship with J.D. due to an incident involving a penny in a hospital door during J.D.’s first day as an intern. Although his name is never mentioned in the series, the Janitor finally tells J.D. that his name is Glenn Matthews in the season 8 finale. However, the revelation is quickly undermined when another member of the hospital staff calls him “Tommy.” However, created Bill Lawrence later confirmed that Glenn Matthews is the Janitor's real name.

The actors behind J.D., Elliot, Turk, Carla, Dr. Cox, Jordan, and the Janitor have all confirmed their participation in the reunion special. Dr. Bob Kelso, who was played by Ken Jenkins, 81, does not seem to be joining the reunion at this time.

The reunion special is going to take place at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas, from June 2 to June 5.

According to its website, the ATX Television Festival “celebrates the television medium: looking back at its history, where it is now, and where it’s headed. The festival consists of panels, screenings, and events where attendees and leaders in the TV industry talk, watch, and experience television together as one community.”

This is actually not the first time that the cast of “Scrubs” has reunited. Last year, the cast of “Scrubs” made a small reunion for an episode of “Reunion Road Trip.” The four-part series featured a look at the cast behind “Scrubs,” “A Different World, “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” and “All My Children.”

“Scrubs” was the last episode to air on E! on July 1. Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison teamed up on a quest to track down Rowdy, their beloved taxidermy dog, and encounter Judy Reyes and RobertMaschio along the way. Robert Maschio was best known as playing Dr. Todd “The Todd” Quinlan on the series; however, it does not seem that he will be included in this latest reunion special either.

For fans who can’t get enough of the series, Zach Braff and Donald Faison have also hosted a rewatch podcast for the series, called “Fake Doctors, Real Friends.”

The iHeart radio podcast has been taking a look back at all of the past episodes of the series. The last episode posted was “My Urologist,” where J.D. develops a crush on a recently divorced urologist. The episode was posted on January 25, 2022.

The description for the show reads:
