Bradley Cooper Said He Didn't Want To Win An Oscar

An Oscar Award is one of the highest honors an actor, producer, or filmmaker could get. Many people regard this award as the most respected and significant award in the entertainment industry. As a result, not many actors have the privilege of receiving the golden statuette in their lifetime.

Bradley Cooper is an American actor notably known for his appearance in movies like "The Hangover," "A Star is Born," "Silver Linings Playbook," and several others. The actor has won and been nominated for several awards in his acting career, including the coveted Oscar.

The actor was nominated for an Oscar for his role in "Silver Linings Playbook" in 2012. Although his performance was remarkably superb, Cooper lost the award to Daniel Day-Lewis for his performance in "Lincoln." The "American Sniper" actor recently revealed that he was glad he didn't win even though he appreciated the honor.

Cooper released "A Star is Born" in 2018, and the film was well accepted by the public. So when the actor wasn't nominated for the award of best director that year, he reportedly had a strong reaction to the snub.

In an interview on CBS News, the director admitted that he wasn't surprised about the outcome but instead embarrassed. "I was not surprised. I'm never surprised about not getting anything. But I did feel – and it's funny you ask me because I have thought about this," he said.

Cooper continued, "I was with my friend at a coffee shop in New York City, and I looked down at my phone, and Nicole had texted me congratulations on these other things but didn't tell me the bad news. And I went, 'Oh, wow.' And the first thing I felt was embarrassment, actually."

He then explained that at that moment, he felt like the lack of a nomination was a poor reflection of his ability as a filmmaker. The actor continued, "I felt embarrassed I didn't do my part. I'll work on that."

However, in a separate interview, the Tony award winner revealed that his acting feelings weren't the same as a director. He talked about his lack of interest in an Oscar for a specific movie and why he felt that way.

Cooper was nominated for Best Actor in "Silver Linings Playbook among his several awards." The actor didn't win the award, but he never really wanted to. He appeared on GQ and explained the reason why.

He said, "I don't want to win an Oscar. It would change nothing. Nothing. The things in my life that aren't fulfilled would not be fulfilled. Career-wise, right now, it is better that I don't win one. I don't want to win. I don't.

In a separate interview with Interview magazine, Cooper opened up even more and said, "That awards season stuff is a real test. It's set up to foster that mentality. It's quite a thing to work through, and it's completely devoid of artistic creation. It's not why you sacrifice everything to create art, and yet you spend so much time being a part of it if you're, in quotes, 'lucky enough to be a part of it.'"

He added, "It's ultimately a great thing because it really does make you face ego, vanity, and insecurity. It's very interesting and utterly meaningless."

In the same GQ interview, the actor revealed that he stopped worrying about awards since his father passed two years ago after witnessing his final moments. "Death became very real. And very tangible. Because my father - someone who had been in my life for 36 years is just f**king gone," Cooper admitted.

"I watched him dying, and I was there by his bed watching him, breathing with him, and then I saw his last breath, and he was gone.

The actor continued, "I experienced the whole thing. And that was a watershed moment that I was privileged to experience. And it changed everything. Nothing has ever been the same since." He also revealed that the loss made him not "sweat s**t" anymore.

The 38-year-old added that the entire experience made him less nervous about things that seemed out of his control. "My father gave me two gifts - having me and dying with me. I used to be the kid that got the shakes if I had to talk in public; now, I just don't get nervous about stuff. I can't control everything," he said.

Cooper was nominated for an Oscar several times despite his feelings on the subject. These times were for his roles in several movies as an actor, producer, and director. Variety revealed that the actor was nominated eight times, although none of these nominations ever led to an actual win.

However, this doesn't mean he won't win one in the future. Variety also revealed that the actor might get another Oscar nomination for his role as Stanton Carlisle in "Nightmare Valley." There is a lot of speculation that Cooper might win this one.
