Host Andy Cohen had an interesting start to 2022!

Only a few minutes into 2022, Andy Cohen told audiences exactly what he thought about former Mayor Bill de Blasio. He and Anderson Cooper were hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve special live for Times Square in New York City.

Although the two had taken shots in honor of “The Golden Girls” actress Betty White, who had passed away earlier that day, it seems Cohen might have had a little too much tequila.

Cohen Slurs Through Drunken Rant On Former Mayor Bill de Blasio

Dressed in a blue turtleneck sweater and beige coat, Cohen let the world know exactly what he thought of Mayor de Blasio at exactly 12:04 AM.

Cohen began “Watching Mayor de Blasio do his victory-lap dance-”

“Oh, don’t go on a rant,” Cooper interjects.

“-after four years of the crappiest term as the mayor of New York!” exclaimed a slurring Cohen.

“That’s how you want to start the New Year?” Cooper asked. He held his arm out for Cohen as if trying to encourage him to stop, but Cohen kept going.

“The only thing that Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been,” Cohen continued. “So, sayonara, sucka! 2022! It’s a new year, because guess what? I have a feeling I’m gonna be standing right here next year, and you know who I’m not going to be looking at dancing as the city comes apart? YOU!”

Fans Take Cohen To Task On Twitter A Little Past Midnight

At 12:46 AM, just over 40 minutes after his drunken tirade, Cohen tweeted, “Guys- I had a ball tonight! Happy New Year! #CNNNYE.”

“Anderson was hilarious,” one person commented. “Your rant about DiBlasio was kind of off-putting and a downer on an otherwise fun night. You do know the majority of your audience is not from NYC, right?”

“Oh man, I love you, but what you did was not right,” another wrote. “It wasn’t the right moment. People don’t want to hear about politics during a celebration. That was so wrong.”

“If you do this job again next year, I think you need a limit,” another wrote. “You were on [over] the line, Andy. It wasn’t funny it was uncomfortable.”

Other fans kept asking what the brand of alcohol they were drinking was. For the record: many fans seem to agree that the alcohol they were drinking was Mujen, a distilled spirit crafted in Japan. During the night, Anderson mentioned it tasted like water and then sneaks up on you.

Fans Take Cohen To Task On Twitter… The Next Morning

At 7:41 AM in the morning, Cohen seemed to be up bright and early. “Good morning,” he tweeted. “Um, I was a bit overserved last night.”

“I was never a fan of Mr. DeBlasio, but bashing him on TV as you were ringing in the New Year was classless,” one person commented. “You should’ve taken the higher road and please don’t blame it on being overserved. Do better!”

“I truly hope you face some serious consequences for that rant,” another added. “I’m not a DeBlasio fan but that was totally inappropriate and definitely not the place tor time.”

“Seemed like you had no problem over-serving yourself,” another commented. “What an embarrassing ending. Don’t come back.”

“That was an utter embarrassment,” another wrote. “No idea why you were ever booked for that show in the first place, but after that performance, I sure hope that’s your last time on air.”

Eventually, the tweet caught the attention of Meghan McCain, who commented, “Loved it – f--- DeBlasio, you were speaking the truth.”
