Kanye West: 'I’m Not Letting Disney Write The Narrative Of My Family'

While married, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were among the most famous celebrity couples. The two got divorced early this year and seemingly moved on. West was spotted with Russian model Irina Shayk shortly after the divorce and was recently seen with 22-year-old model Vinetria.
Kardashian, on her part, was repeatedly spotted in romantic settings with Pete Davidson from Saturday Night Live. While the “Donda” artist seemed to have moved on, West has been reportedly trying to make moves to “keep his family together.”
His most recent move was buying a run-down house located across from where he and his estranged wife lived. Although the reason for this move isn’t apparent, the artist previously said he wanted to be close to his four children.
Kardashian Hasn’t Moved Out Of Her And West’s Home After The Divorce
Amid their divorce this year, Kardashian hasn’t moved out of her and West’s $60 million mansion in Hidden Hills. A source told People that the KUWTK star wasn’t moving anytime soon, and West was moving back and forth from LA to his ranch in Wyoming.
“Kim plans on staying at the Hidden Hills house with the kids. This is their home, and Kim doesn’t want to move right now, at least,” the source said. “Kanye lives elsewhere but is happy that Kardashian is staying at the family house. They both agree that the less stress the kids experience, the better. Kanye loves his kids. He wants them to be happy. He doesn’t want to fight Kardashian about anything.”
The couple initially bought the house for $20 million then remodeled it for four years. They moved into the house in December 2017, and in 2018, Kris Jenner tweeted that the home was worth $60 million.
TMZ reported that the celebrity couple’s divorce process was “cordial.” “We’re told negotiations on the home were extremely cordial between Kardashian and Kanye; she’s essentially paying cash to even things out between them,” the news outlet wrote.
West Bought A Teardown Opposite Him And Kardashian’s Home
West recently bought a California-based home right across the street from his family. The artist reportedly purchased the house for $4.5 million. A source told People that the house is a “teardown,” and he only bought it to be close to his children.
“Kanye’s new house is a teardown. He only bought it for the location. It’s near Kim and the kids,” the source said. “He has a vision for the house and plans on starting construction ASAP. It will be family-friendly. He wants to be able to have the kids over as much as possible. Living only in Malibu was making visits more tricky for Kanye.”
Another source revealed that West “jumped at the idea” of buying the house when he realized he could do that and be close to his children. The couple previously decided to seek joint custody of the children after the divorce. According to an insider, The reality tv Star wanted West to be a big part of their children’s lives, and he would be invited to the holidays and family celebrations.
West Said He Wants His Family Back Together
A month before West bought the house across his former home, the artist made it known that he wanted his family back together. He appeared on a Thanksgiving visit to Skid Row, and according to The Jasmine Brand, he said, “In all these relationships, we’ve made mistakes.”
“I’ve made mistakes. I’ve publicly done things that were not acceptable as a husband. But I’m here to change that narrative. I’m not letting E! write the narrative of my family— I’m not letting Hulu write the narrative of my family. I’m not letting Disney write the narrative of my family,” he continued.
“I am the priest of my own home. I have to be next to my children as much as possible. So when I’m out the horse, I got a house right next to the house. I’m doing everything to be right next to the situation.”
Not long after, West appeared on Drink Champs podcast to talk about his divorce and that he didn’t think the split was legitimate. The artist said, “My kids want they parents to stay together. I want us to be together.”
He continued, “You know SNL making my wife say ‘I divorced him’ on TV ‘cause they just wanted to get that bar off. I ain’t never even seen the papers. We not even divorced … ‘cause that ain’t no joke to me.” The “Ye” artist also mentioned that he believed that God would bring his family back together.”
Fans’ Reactions To West’s Decision
As expected, West’s decision to buy the house across from Kardashian’s brought in mixed reactions from fans. Some called the move “creepy,” while others supported it because it would allow the children to see both parents as much as they wanted.
A fan wrote, “If they did decide this together, then that’s great because I’m assuming they want the kids to be able to be with both parents easily. But if this is something he did on his own and is not welcomed by Kardashian, then it would be concerning.”
