“Keeping Up With the Kardashians” is about to say goodbye. After 20 seasons, the show that made stars out of Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and the rest of the Kardashian/Jenner family is coming to an end. The series finale will air tomorrow night, June 10th, in what will no doubt be an emotional evening for the family and their fans.
The Kardashians and Jenners have been an open book throughout the years. They’ve allowed cameras to capture their every moment whether it was good or bad. From the birth of their children to catfights to cheating scandals, no scene was off limits.
Getting this moments on television required a lot of work. As with any television production, “KUWTK” has their own behind-the-scenes secrets. So what happens during the production stages of the E! reality series?
Fake Homes

The Kardashians have welcomed viewers into their homes since the show’s debut in 2007. Throughout the years, fans have seen the girls move out and get places of their own. Based on the interior and exterior shots, they have gorgeous homes.
However, it turns out the shots of the home are fake, or at least the exterior ones are. The family doesn’t mind showing the inside of their houses, but when it comes to the outside, that’s off limits. Earlier in the show’s run, exterior shots were shown of their actual homes. Yet, the show eventually went with using fake exterior home shots for the Kardashian houses. According to Kim, the reason for the change is because fans would show up outside the gate of her home, and she’d call the police on them.
Kim’s In Charge

“KUWTK” was the brainchild of Kris Jenner. One would think that when it comes to filming, Kris would be the one in charge. Well, that’s not the case. As it turns out Kim Kardashian is the one calling the shots during production.
The show has always been important to Kim and she wants to make sure crucial moments are captured. If she gets word that something’s happening with her sibling, she’ll alert the film crew and order them to go to her sisters’ houses. Kim also has a say in what can and what can’t be shown on television. If she sees a scene where she doesn’t look good, she’ll have it deleted. “I’m too vain to leave really ugly, ugly angles in,” the KKW Beauty founder admitted.
Pay For Their Own Vacations

The Kardashians love to travel and as seen on “KUWTK” they’ve visited a lot of breathtaking destinations. Bora Bora, Japan, London, and Italy are a few of the places the family has vacationed. With these vacations being filmed for the show, one has to wonder who’s footing the bill for these trips.
Although, it’s believed production pays for the vacations, that’s not true. The Kardashians pay for everything out of their own pocket. With the family having income ranging from millions to a billion, they can afford these getaways. However, during a vacation in season 18, Kourtney Kardashian took issue with having to pay for her trip. “Why am I being sent this other huge bill? Why isn’t production chipping in if we’re using it for the show?” Kourtney griped to her sisters.
Long Days Of Makeup And Filming

When it’s time to film an upcoming episode of “KUWTK,” the cast and crew can expect a long day of work. On a normal day of shooting, the work hours can range anywhere from 10 to 12 hours, possibly more if there’s a juicy storyline to film. There’s always at least one or two cameras on hand to capture any drama that’s going down with the family.
Aside from filming, a lot of time is also spent in the makeup chair. The Kardashians and Jenners want to look their best for television, and get glammed up for their big moments. Kris Jenner admits to getting her makeup professionally done for each episode. She doesn’t spend more than an hour getting ready because her schedule is busy. As for Kim, she takes a bit longer getting ready than her mother. Kim’s known to spend at least two hours in makeup to look her best for filming.
Keeping Their Secrets Under Wraps

Allowing cameras into their homes, the Kardashians and Jenners have opened themselves up to everyone. However, there are certain things the family doesn’t want getting out. One way the family makes sure their secrets stay quiet is having the cast and crew sign non-disclosure agreements. If someone is working on the show, they must sign the documents.
Aside from the NDAs, the family also knows they have a trustworthy crew. The family has built a close bond with their crew over the years and as Kris Jenner stated “they have our back.” When “KUWTK” cancellation was announced, the family gathered the production members together and tearfully thanked them for their work. As a thank-you gift, Kim gave each crew member a $300,000 Rolex watch.
