Long story short here, the Indianapolis Colts played the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game of the 2014 NFL season in January of 2015. In the first half Tom Brady threw an interception to Colts linebacker D'Qwell Jackson and that’s when the whole NFL media went down the rabbit hole.

NFL footballs are provided by each team for a game and each team uses their own footballs when they are on offense. When a defense takes the ball away they can keep it as a souvenir. This souvenir though, allowed the Colts to see that there was something fishy with the ball. They had refs measure the pressure of the football at half time. At least 11 of the 12 Patriots footballs were found to be under the legal inflation limit.

Ultimately the Patriots won the game convincingly even after the footballs were inflated to a legal air pressure for the second half. Still, the NFL launched a full investigation into the incident. A video emerged of a Patriots' employee randomly taking all of the footballs into a restroom where he potentially “tampered” with them.

It was widely speculated that Brady knew and even orchestrated the scheme. At the time with an ongoing legal investigation into his involvement in the scheme, Brady coincidentally broke his phone and switched it for a new one, deleting all of the texts that he had in his former device, making things look even worse than they were before! At the time Brady took to Facebook to explain the whole cell phone debacle saying,

“I replaced my broken Samsung phone with a new iPhone 6 AFTER my attorneys made it clear to the NFL that my actual phone device would not be subjected to investigation under ANY circumstances.” he would then add, “I have never written, texted, emailed to anybody at anytime, anything related to football air pressure before this issue was raised at the AFC Championship game”.

The incident landed Tom Brady in court and got him suspended for 4 games. Although he initially won an appeal to have the suspension revoked the suspension was upheld later on. At the time he said that he would accept the suspension. Now, he’s saying that the power that the 31 billionaire NFL owners have was the reason why he didn’t continue fighting in court saying,

“I don’t need to defend myself, I’ve defended myself for a long time, I said what I had to say multiple times in front of a lot of different people in court, in public” he ultimately ended the segment by saying, “It’s hard to beat 31 billionaires in court!”

Is Brady guilty or not? It seems the jury is still out on him in the court of public opinion.
