The supernatural TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” may have been off the air for decades, but it is far from forgotten.
In March 2022, BOOM! Studios announced that they plan to release a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” 25th Anniversary special.
There is not much known about the special so far, but the studio is described as an “oversized one-shot celebrating the 25 years of Buffy Summers.”
The 25th anniversary special is described as an epilogue of the first three years of the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” comics, which picked up where the TV series left off. The special will treat fans to an “epic multiversal Buffy team-up,” which will serve as a prologue to the beginning of a brand new series.
25th Anniversary Official Summary Teases Buffy Summers In The Multiverse
Here is the anniversary special’s official summary:
“25 years later, dive into a whole new universe of stories celebrating the phenomenal icon of a generation, Buffy Summers. Where in the Multiverse is Buffy? And what’s happened to the Scooby Gang?”
Find out in several new original stories as well as the surprising epilogue to BOOM! Studios’ acclaimed first three years of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Fans will also discover a shocking prologue to a brand new comic book series in the Buffyverse from Hugo Award-winning author Sarah Gailey and artist Carlos Olivares!”
The special will include new stories from writers Jeremy Lambert, Lilah Sturges, Danny Lore, Casey Gilly, and Sarah Gailey.
They will be joined by artists Claudia Balboni, Claire Roe, Bayleigh Underwood, Marianna Ignazzi, and Carlos Olivares.
As previously mentioned, BOOM! Studios plans to continue Buffy’s story in a brand new series. To make things even better, there are whispers that a new “Angel” series is in development as well. However, BOOM! does not seem to be attached to that project.
‘BtVS’ Comics Pick Up Where The TV Series Ended In 2003
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” first debuted on March 10, 1997, and completed its seven-season run in 2003. It featured vampire slayer Buffy Summers and her two best friends, Willow and Xander, battling the forces of evil with the help of her Watcher, Sunnydale High School librarian Rupert Giles.
The TV series followed Buffy’s journey through high school, college, and struggling to make a living while taking care of her younger sister, Dawn, after the death of her mother – all while saving the world and preventing the apocalypse. Multiple times.
The comics series picks up where the TV series left off, although it was met with mixed reviews from critics and fans alike.
Although a new reboot of the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” TV series is supposedly in the works, little has been discussed about the project; however, fans still have the comics to tie them over until then!
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer 25th Anniversary Special #1” features main cover art by Frany (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) and will be available for purchase in March 2022. It will also include variant cover art by Jenny Frison (“Something is Killing the Children”), Jorge Corona (“Wynd”), and Mirka Andolfo (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow”).
