Singer Taylor Swift absolutely loves cats.
Besides appearing in the film adaption of “Cats” in 2019 as Bombalurina, Swift actually has three little furry friends of her own. In addition to Meredith Grey (named after the character from “Grey’s Anatomy”) and Olivia Benson (from “Law & Order: SVU”), Swift recently adopted Benjamin Button (named after Brad Pitt’s character in the 2008 film).
Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson are both Scottish Folds, whereas Benjamin Button is a Ragdoll, which are known for their luxurious coats and bright blue eyes.
“I have cats. I’m obsessed with them,” Swift told Parade. “I love my cats so much that when a role came up in a movie called Cats, I just thought, like, I gotta do this. Like, this is my calling in life to do this—for the ladies.”
She called her cats a “joy to live with,” adding, “They’re very dignified. They’re independent. They’re very capable of dealing with their own life.”
She loves her cats so much that she threw a party for Benjamin Button, who is turning 22 in cat years!
Swift Throws Birthday Party For Benjamin Button!
On Monday, December 27, the “Shake It Off” singer threw a party for her fuzzy feline friend.
“Benjamin is 22 in cat years,” Swift wrote in the caption of the Instagram Reel, along with the caption #ImFeeling2022.
Swift was wearing a sweatshirt and wore her hair long in the video while showing off a filter with an “I’m Feeling 2022” headband. Her hit song “22 (Taylor’s Version)” played in the background, repeating the iconic lyrics, “I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22.”
How Did Taylor Swift Get Her Cats?
Swift adopted Meredith Grey on Halloween in 2011 and Olivia Benson joined her in June 2014. In 2019, Swift added Benjamin Button to her growing family when she met him on the set of the music video for “ME!” – the first single from her “Lover” album. She described the rescue cat as a “purr box” and said it was “love at first sight” when she met him on set. All three cats appeared in the music video alongside “Panic! At the Disco” singer Brendon Urie, who presents Swift with Benjamin Button in the middle of the video.
Swift loves to travel with her cats and often includes them in her work. In the Netflix documentary, “Taylor Swift: Miss Americana,” the “I Bet You Think About Me” singer revealed that she has personalized bags for her cats and cat backpacks when she travels with them on her private jet.
Swift took Meredith and Olivia with her on her “1989” tour and mentioned them in the song “Gorgeous” from her 2017 album “Reputation” when she sings “I guess I’ll just go on home to my cats.”
The “You Belong With Me” singer even brought her cats to the set of her Diet Coke commercial, when she gets swarmed by cats. Eagle-eyed fans spot Olivia Benson making an appearance at the very end of the commercial.
Although Swift celebrated her birthday on December 13 with a normal cake, she also received a cat-themed cake with her cats’ face on it for her 30th birthday.
Swift quipped “Fur real guys this was my cake.”
