Dolly Parton's Holiday Childhood Memories Makes The Season Special

For Parton, the holiday season makes her reflect on her early days. According to the singer, her family did not always share gifts as they lacked the means. However, it did not stop them from making sacrifices.

The songstress cited when the family put together their gift funds to purchase a wedding ring for their mother.

"So Daddy said this year. why don't we all just pitch in any little that we were going to spend on each other or someone else and buy momma a wedding band," she told WBIR. "We were all for it. So we made a little game out of that."

The game ended with the ring fished out from its hiding place and given to Parton's mother. Although the band was not expensive, the singer confided that her mother loved the present.

"To me, the other part is like being with family, eatin' all that food, eating as much of it as you can. Not feeling guilty about it until the first of the year, trying to get that all of you," she added.

Beyond the giving that comes with the holiday season, Parton and her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, love gifting themselves stuff to show their commitment to each other. The singer revealed this tidbit in an interview on the Today show.

"My husband, Carl, and I are pretty easygoing when it comes to gifts," she said. "He's a carpenter and a mechanic, so I keep an eye on what he's missing or what he's worn out, and I'll buy him tools or flashlights. He knows I love to cook, so he'll buy me things like aprons or oven mitts."

She also highlighted that he gets her the right gifts that she really likes. "He buys me what he knows I really want," Parton said. "I also write him songs, and he writes me sweet poems. A poem inside a card is my favorite kind of gift.
