The ‘Netflix’ star opened up about the situation after spending weeks in the United States promoting the massive hit show. The 27-year-old South Korean actress spoke to Star News explaining she dropped eight pounds in just 10 days. The actress — who plays Kang Sae-byeok in the show — explained the recent weight loss was connected to the extremely busy schedule promoting the show.
“There was no time to eat,” she said of the tough few weeks. Adding, “All the clothes that used to fit me when I first came [to America] are too loose now.”
‘Squid Game’ Star Reveals She Lost 8 Pounds In 10 Days
The actress responded to the inquiry after fans flooded her Instagram page, concerned over the actress’s growingly thin appearance. “You are getting skinnier and skinnier 😕 hope you are happy and keeping well with your general health,” one person wrote. Another added, “I’m not sure if anyone noticed but she looks so tired.”
Of course, many of the show’s fans reached out to the actress via social media, hoping to keep a positive outlook on the situation. “I think you are an amazing actor and human. I don’t want to come off negative at all, just want to say that seeing you in the black dress made me a bit worried. I know it’s how it is for models to obtain a certain weight standard. But please make sure you are eating well, working with a holistic dietician, and making sure your physical and mental health is well and energized through food,” a fan wrote.
HoYeon Jung Addresses Weight Loss During ‘Squid Game’ Promotion
This is not the first time the actress has addressed her weight, claiming in early December that the sudden success of the streaming series caused a loss of appetite.
“I couldn’t follow the speed of the growth of the ‘Squid Game’ success because, since COVID, I think everything is faster and even online, it happens just so quick. It was hard to follow,” Jung told The Hollywood Reporter.
In the same interview, the actress revealed the shooting of the series had real effects on her mentally and physically, saying, “At the beginning of shooting, I actually didn’t know much about Sae-byeok, but the experience Sae-byeok had during Squid Game was kind of naturally saved in my body and my [mind]. Especially in the bathroom when she got stabbed, [which] we [shot] quite early. When we shot that scene, I was so nervous because I’ve never been stabbed — it was a pressure scene for me.
She continued, “I lost 6 pounds in a week when it became successful. I couldn’t eat — it wasn’t stress, I just didn’t know this feeling. ‘What’s going on out there, who am I?’ I was kind of losing myself.”
The show continues to be one of the biggest shows in ‘Netflix’ history, and the stars are coming back for a second season.
