Salma Hayek‘s views are through the roof. The “Like A Boss” actress clocked herself over 1 million of them in under 90 minutes today, with what may be the most animated, most entertaining “VIVA MEXICO!” Instagram has ever seen. Salma, 54, and fiercely proud of her Mexican heritage, updated her account on Wednesday for Mexican Independence Day. The actress had gone full-throttle with an outfit that shouted out her home country’s flag. The lingo definitely matched. Check out the infectious video below.
Scroll for the video. Salma, whose September headline-making has largely included her turning 54 in that skintight swimsuit-and-skirt look, now sees herself in the news for simply being Mexican and proud of it.
The video showed Salma screaming “VIVA MEXICO!!! VIVA MEXICO!!! VIVA MEXICO!!!!” at the top of her lungs and in selfie mode. The “Frida” star wore a black t-shirt with green, white, and red lettering spelling out “MEXICO.” She hadn’t done the accessories by half, either, then seen showing off earrings in red and green.
Salma, who also sported a dramatic red lip with music playing and then showed a backyard gathering repeating her words, has now gotten her 15.9 million followers hitting play. A caption from the star shouted out her homeland as she wrote:
“Happy Mexican Independence Day!
Feliz Dia de la Independencia. Viva Mexico!
Aside from the comment stating: “Then why are you dependent on the USA????” replies were largely positive and seeing users join in. “Viva Mexico from Turkey,” one fan wrote, with another writing “Viva Mexico Saludos” from Montenegro. More after the video, including Salma claiming she was denied a role on account of her nationality.
Salma, who this year stated that being Mexican cost her an acting role, does not shy away from her nationality. “I once got offered a role opposite a bit star,” she said in June, adding that she had “soon learned that I misundertood” and that it wasn’t a “lead role. I wasn’t considered for the lead role because I was told that the role could never be played by a Mexican,” she continued.
Back in 2012, the star told AP how proud she is to be Mexican.
Hayek stated: “I have never denied my background or my culture. I have taught my child to embrace her Mexican heritage, to love my first language, Spanish, to learn about Mexican history, music, folk art, food, and even the Mexican candy I grew up with.”
Salma is married to French billionaire François-Henri Pinault. The star was born in the Veracruz state of Mexico, getting her career kick-off in the country’s film industry with “Midaq Alley.” If Salma in a bikini is up your alley, keep scrolling.
