When it comes to stunts in films, everything and anything can go terribly wrong. In Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer's case, it went so bad that the latter actor's life was put at risk. He found himself in an extremely dangerous stunt scenario where he almost drowned.

And when Hammer turned to the only person who could help him at that point, Cavill was unable to help, so he left him underwater. Because of how dangerous the situation was, it would ordinarily be difficult for fans to understand why Cavill did what he did.

Cavill & Hammer Were Filming 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'

Cavill and Hammer co-starred as rivals in Guy Richie's 2015 film "The Man from U. N.C.L.E." Despite the bad blood between their characters, the two actors formed a close bond and became friends on set.

However, their friendship was tested when a stunt went wrong, and Hammer almost drowned. According to a post by The Daily News on the incident, Hammer was filming a stunt scene where his character was tied to a cinder block underwater, and Cavill's character saved him from his death.

Unfortunately, there were a few errors in calculation, and Hammer found himself truly stuck underwater and quickly losing air. When asked about the incident, Hammer said, "It was like a mafia execution gone wrong."

What was meant to be an ordinary stunt scene and a quick save by Cavill turned into an actual race against time to rescue Hammer from a watery grave.

Cavill Almost Let Hammer Drown

A post by The Daily News revealed that as Cavill swam towards Hammer, the latter was unable to slip out of his bonds and prepare to be rescued. So, when Cavill tried to pull Hammer up and out of the water, the cinder block made things worse and complicated the rescue.

Hammer recalled what happened and said, "Henry started swimming with me, but he was basically pulling me and this giant cinder block up…so he did what you would naturally do and let go…and I sank all the way back back to the bottom."

Eventually, a rescue diver swam down and saved Hammer by giving him a regular breather. Technically, Cavill did leave Hammer to drown, but there was nothing he could have done in that situation but swim back up and get help.

Cavill also recalled the aftermath when Hammer was rescued. He recalled Hammer saying, "Hey man, you let me go. But I'm really sorry because I still had a cinder block attached to my foot!" Hammer understood the circumstances and held no bad blood against his co-star.

Hammer Once Saved An Elderly Lady

Hammer has had his fair share of accidents apart from the stunt mishap. The "Call Me By Your Name" actor once found himself playing the hero when he appeared at the scene of a car accident.

A report by Today shared a detailed account of the incident posted by supermodel Leeann Tweeden on her Facebook page. She posted, "So random random RANDOM. I was sitting in my house when I heard an accident tonight. I throw on my shoes and run out of my house to see if I can help."

The supermodel added that she saw a man rescue an elderly lady from a smashed car by the time she reached the accident scene. To her greatest surprise, she soon realized who exactly the hero was.

Tweeden wrote, "When the guy turns around, who is it?!!!! None other than: ARMIE HAMMER. Yes, ladies. The cutie Armie was in the opposite turn lane in his Audi and watched the whole thing go down and got out of his car to help. Me and him. Out of millions in L.A."

Where Is Hammer Now?

Hammer hasn't recently been on fans' Television screens and at Hollywood events after several scandalous allegations by his exes surfaced. One of his exes claimed that Hammer had extreme sexual fantasies when they were together, and another, Courtney Vucekovich, alleged that Hammer told her he wanted to break and eat her rib.

There were also images of conversations allegedly between Hammer and several women in which he shared more of his extreme fetishes. The "Rebecca" actor reportedly said, "I am 100% a cannibal in one of these texts. I want to eat you. F**k. That's scary to admit. I've never admitted that before."

After the accusations came to light and went viral, Hammer became more private and stepped out of the spotlight. He was meant to feature in "Shotgun Wedding" with actress and singer Jennifer Lopez, but he stepped down from the role amidst the controversy.

When asked about his reasons for leaving the project, Hammer stated that he dropped out because of familial issues, not the accusations. The accusations have never been confirmed, and Hammer is still reclusive, but some of his fans hope that he will feature in a film soon.
