'Elf' Star Zooey Deschanel Files To Add Famous Name To Kid's Birth Certificates

Zooey Deschanel is asking a judge to sign off on an emergency order to add her famous last name to the birth certificates of her two young children.

According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, the 'Elf' star filed an emergency request for the "issuance of new birth certificates for the minor children to conform to the judgment" following her divorce.

As we reported, Zooey divorced her ex-husband, Jacob Pechenik, after four years of marriage -- and the couple shares two children together, Elsie Otter and Charlie Wolf. But, according to the actress, the former couple agreed to legally change the children's names to add "Deschanel."

The actress claims she is having trouble with the Vital Records in Los Angeles and is asking a judge to step in and help make the changes. The actress filed a declaration in the ongoing divorce case, explaining she needs it done quickly so the family can travel for the holidays.

"My request for change of the children's birth certificates to conform to the terms of the Stipulated Judgment was denied by the Center for Health Statistics and Information, Vital Records because my name as listed on the Stipulated Judgment differs from my name as listed on the children' birth certificates and the children's names as shown on the original birth certificate differed from the requested Birth Certificates," Zooey writes.

Adding, "I want to travel for the holidays and need the updated birth certificates in order to have passports issued for them."

The 'Elf' star makes it clear her ex-husband agreed to the terms in their divorce settlement and joins her in the emergency petition to have the names changed.

The famous couple announced their separation back in 2020, issuing a statement, saying, "After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners, and co-parents rather than life partners. We remain committed to our business, our values, and most of all our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time."

Zooey Deschanel is currently dating 'Property Brothers' star Jonathan Scott,after meeting the reality star on the set of 'Carpool Karaoke: The Series.' The couple celebrated their two-year anniversary in August. Scott recently opened up about the relationship, saying COVID helped him release just how much he loved the actress. "I discovered having been in other relationships in the past, this was the very first time I noticed that all of the love and effort and the things I was doing were being reciprocated," he told People. Adding, "And I was like 'What?' So I think I'll hold onto this one."

At this point, a judge in the case will just need to sign off on the request -- and since her ex-husband isn't fighting it -- it should be easily fixed.
