Although it is unclear why Shelby is walking alone at night and dropping explosives into the water, fans have started making conjectures about what might have spurred the act. Some have said that the scene had to do with who betrayed him in the last sequel, while others purported it involved Oswald Mosley – who Shelby wanted to assassinate.

Luckily, fans do not have to wait too much longer for "Peaky Blinders" season six to get the answers to their questions.

Fans Think Michael Gray Betrayed Thomas Shelby

In "Peaky Blinders" season five, Michael and Gina Gray offered to help expand the Shelby Company Limited to the U.S. Although the proposal was eye-catching and with several perks, Shelby turned it down, which prompted an adverse reaction from the couple.

Following the rejection, the bond of loyalty between the Gray's and Shelby weakened as they started making moves to emancipate themselves from him. With things currently building up for a highly thrilling end to the long-running show, fans suspect that Michael betrayed his benefactor, as implied in the last sequel finale.

What Is Next For 'Peaky Blinders?'

Although it seems like season six will serve as the end of the crime saga series, creator Steven Knight once disclosed there is still more in the coffers. Initial rumors speculated that a season seven might be in the works but, the showrunner is more inclined to make a movie.

"Covid changed our plans," he said according to Deadline. "But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen."

In another interview, Knight opined that he had several ideas not scripted into the show, such as Shelby seeing a psychiatrist. Whether fans will ever see their favorite series adapted into a movie remains to be seen.

For now, the buzz is clearly on the return of Shelby and his colleagues for the new chapter.
