The sixth installment of the television series “Peaky Blinders” is finally coming back to the silver screen. Once more, the Shelby family will be reprising their role as crime lords in the popular cult saga that has continually entertained viewers.
Over the past five installments, fans witnessed many spell-binding scenes, from gripping speeches to blood-curling fights which perfectly intertwined brains with brawn. With the return to Birmingham for the final installment almost in view, many anticipate the new series would answer all the questions that came with the end of season five.
Fans can recall from the last sequel how things unraveled around the star character Tommy Shelby, pushing him into a never-before-seen wild state, unlike his usual calm demeanor. Whatever might happen in season six, a leaked video of the gang king throwing explosives into the canal clearly reveals that viewers should expect many breathtaking revelations.
What Fans Should Know About The Leaked Footage
The season five finale of the epic crime series aired a little over two years ago. The cliffhanger at the end prompted many unanswered questions and new plots for the upcoming season. Recently, a new teaser came to light that has clearly whet the appetite of the show’s followers.
Fans got a sneak look into “Peaky Blinders” season six when a Reddit user posted leaked footage. The scene took place in the dead of the night and showed Shelby walking on a bridge overlooking a canal. Subsequently, he threw a bag of explosives into the flowing water and continued his trot.
Although it is unclear why Shelby is walking alone at night and dropping explosives into the water, fans have started making conjectures about what might have spurred the act. Some have said that the scene had to do with who betrayed him in the last sequel, while others purported it involved Oswald Mosley – who Shelby wanted to assassinate.
Luckily, fans do not have to wait too much longer for “Peaky Blinders” season six to get the answers to their questions.
Fans Think Michael Gray Betrayed Thomas Shelby
In “Peaky Blinders” season five, Michael and Gina Gray offered to help expand the Shelby Company Limited to the U.S. Although the proposal was eye-catching and with several perks, Shelby turned it down, which prompted an adverse reaction from the couple.
Following the rejection, the bond of loyalty between the Gray’s and Shelby weakened as they started making moves to emancipate themselves from him. With things currently building up for a highly thrilling end to the long-running show, fans suspect that Michael betrayed his benefactor, as implied in the last sequel finale.
Per the many conjectures, Actor Finn Cole shared his view on who might have betrayed Shelby. “He could be the one [Michael] who betrayed Tommy, but there are several other candidates,” he said as per NME. “I think going up against Tommy would probably be a mistake.”
Season Six Premiere Date
Due to the pandemic, filming for the upcoming season was paused and only resumed in January 2021. Afterward, it took five more months for the team to wrap up shooting and move to post-production, as announced on May 28, 2021, via their Twitter account.
“It’s a wrap! Huge thanks to the cast and crew of #PeakyBlinders season 6. You have given this one everything. And it’s going to be epic.”
According to Actor Conrad Khan, fans should expect “Peaky Blinders” season six in early 2022. In an interview with the Radio Times, the star revealed, “[Peaky Blinders] From what I last heard, I think that will come out next February, the beginning of next year.”
The showrunners are yet to announce the exact debut date for the new installment. However, it will premiere first on the BBC Network, followed by a later release on the Netflix streaming platform.
What Is Next For ‘Peaky Blinders?’
Although it seems like season six will serve as the end of the crime saga series, creator Steven Knight once disclosed there is still more in the coffers. Initial rumors speculated that a season seven might be in the works but, the showrunner is more inclined to make a movie.
“Covid changed our plans,” he said according to Deadline. “But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”
In another interview, Knight opined that he had several ideas not scripted into the show, such as Shelby seeing a psychiatrist. Whether fans will ever see their favorite series adapted into a movie remains to be seen.
For now, the buzz is clearly on the return of Shelby and his colleagues for the new chapter.
