Amazon Server Problems Delay Deliveries, Hurts Adele's Ticket Sales

Looks like Amazon is having a few issues today!

Problems with Amazon servers are causing major delays for major websites and all Amazon properties. Users reportedly started having problems with slow speeds and non-responsive websites around 10:45 AM EST on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.

This did not only include streaming service providers like Disney+, but also included games like League of Legends, Valorant, Fortnite, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, commonly referred to as PUBG.

Amazon’s apps and products are also down or experiencing delays, which causes problems with Amazon’s AI assistant Alexa. Also affected by the server problems are Kindle eBooks, Amazon Music, Ring security camera, Chime, and Amazon Prime Video.

Families waiting for packages amidst the busy shopping holiday season might also find themselves disappointed. Amazon’s internal apps are reportedly down too, which means that delivery drivers are also experiencing interruptions.

The DownDetector website reported a string of other websites that were also affected when Amazon’s servers went down. This includes Roku, Tinder, Coinbase, Cash App, Venmo, Instagram, Ticketmaster, Doordash, and IMDB.

Even language-learning apps like Duolingo were not immune to the server crisis. Netflix, Zoom, Schoology, Spotify, Spectrum, and Ancestry.com are also all experiencing downtime.

Amazon’s official status page has since confirmed the outage and says that they are actively working on fixing the issue. Currently, there is no clear ETA as to when Amazon will be back on its feet again. The problem seems to be focused in the US-EAST-1 AWS region which is located in Virginia, so users on the West Coast might not receive any issue.

Fans of Adele are particularly displeased with the outage right now. The Amazon outage, which also affected Ticketmaster, delayed the pre-sale window for Adele’s new tour by four hours. Fans were anxious to welcome her back to the stage five years after concluding her last world tour and are disappointed to have to wait to get their tickets.

According to Ticketmaster’s official Twitter account, “Due to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage impacting companies globally, the Adele verified Fan Presale window originally scheduled for 10 AM PT will not begin at 2 PM PT and last until 2:55 PM PT.”

Adele’s latest album, “30,” which came out in November, has received critical acclaim by fans and has smashed streaming records. It also prompted a major change by Spotify that not all fans were happy with. At her request, Spotify removed the shuffle button as the default option when playing an album, so listeners have to listen to every song on the album in the order the artist created.

Adele responded to the change by tweeting, “This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry! We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason. Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening.”
