According to new legal documents, obtained by The Blast, the ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ singer just responded to the record producer’s divorce in Los Angeles County Courts. In the filing, Evans is asking for the court to “terminate” its ability to award any spousal support to Stevie J.
It’s unclear in the documents if the former couple has a prenuptial agreement, but Faith is asking that all personal assets be retained by her after the divorce. Faith is asking for “all property acquired prior to marriage, by gift, inheritance, or devise, and after the date of separation.” (She) contends that the exact nature of such assets and debts are not yet fully known, and (she) will amend her petition or supplement it at the time of trial.”
Stevie J & Faith Evans Claims Wildly Different Dates Of Their Separation!
The response comes on the heels of Stevie’s divorce petition becoming available to the public, which outlined his request for spousal support from his ex-wife.
Interestingly, the former couple has different dates for the day on which they officially split. According to Faith’s legal filing, the couple separated on “May 29, 2020” just 2 years and 2 months after they got married. But, Stevie J claims the couple was together until “October 19, 2021,” — a difference of over a year.
Now, this can be a big deal in high-profile divorces for several reasons. One, IF the former couple doesn’t have a prenup, any income earned during the marriage (prior to the date of separation) is considered “community property.” In California, regardless of what happened in the relationship, it is considered a “no-fault” state. So, all the money earned during that period of time would be split 50/50 by the parties.
Faith Evans, Stevie J Don’t Have A Prenuptial Agreement?!
At this point, neither one of them has explained the HUGE discrepancy in their dates of separation, but we are guessing it will be important in this case. It should be noted, that these two are both successful musicians and are believed to have a large amount of wealth. That’s why, in most cases like this, there would be a prenuptial agreement.
As we reported, the exact amount requested by Stevie J isn’t in the documents. But, this is normal in a case like this and the amount isn’t normally filed with the original divorce petition. The ex-couple doesn’t have any children, so child support isn’t on the table.
Interestingly, the famous duo made huge headlines in the weeks following their divorce after being spotted hanging out together in Malibu, CA. On November 14, Evans posted a video of Stevie doing cartwheels on the sand, with the caption, “Get us free, bruh.” Of course, this doesn’t exactly look like two people who are preparing to fight over money in their divorce, but Faith’s newest documents were filed this week.
Famous Couple Dealing With Major Issues Inside Their Marriage
The couple’s split was sparked by Faith Evans being arrested for domestic violence after an argument amongst the couple reportedly turned physical. LAPD was called to their home around 1 AM and noticed visible marks on Stevie J’s face. She was released on bail.
The divorce case is ongoing.
